Prepping Tires? Launching?
How does everyone prep their tires before each run?
Also how does everyone launch? Currently since I break loose even with 315s in the rear I power brake it and get it up to about 1500 and then punch it on green, and it gives me the best launch. Any other ideas?

I also did my power braking at 1500 with my old 86GT stock auto back in 1998. Being 17 I couldn't afford sticky tires - LOL

With street tires or DR's I stage it at 1000 rpm and slowly roll into it on the last yellow, otherwise I just spin. With the Hoosiers, I can stage it up higher and stab it hard (especially now that I got the differential fixed).

with an auto without a trans brake, stage shallow, leave on the second yellow from idle. If you have street tires, just avoid the water. you may want to spin them a tad to get off excess rocks, but no burnout is necessary. If you have drag radials, you may have to heat the piss out of them, but it depends on the tire.
Also, for the auto, do your burnout in a specific gear and feather the throttle to stay off the limiter. Never shift or let your auto shift in the burnout.

For one..if you wait to see green you waited too long. When you see that last yellow..GO! 9 times out of 10 you will cut a good light and not redlight. I with an auto 02 supercharged GT would do the same..brake it, rev it let off on third and floor it. Was cutting mid 7's in the 8th-Shane

I saw you're looking into M/T DRs. With your power, very little warmup is needed for those tires. They hooked well on my car with absolutely no burnout and about a 3k launch. Other than that, Mike will have the best advice for you here.

MT's and Quick times require very little prep, Nitto DR's require getting the heat up, Street tires are just what 86sleeper said - just clean them off.

I prep my tires by just bumping it and doing a little spin. Bumping is just to get the water off your tires.
I launch at about 2K and ease into first slamming on it at the top of the gear. I go through gears quick with the 4.10's so easing on it only lasts a second at most.

I pull the street tires and bolt on slicks when I get to the track.
I use the line lock to do a decent burnout in second gear. I stage and bring it to 6000-6500 RPM. I wait for the third yellow and sidestep the clutch. I hang on. Probably not much help to you, but you asked! Seriously, drag radials will make a huge difference. Do not be afraid to air them down and try different pressures. Airing down normal street tires only hurts your traction. Airing down true drag radials usually helps. TJ
