Pulleys................

I got my new pulleys for christmas. I know I need an impact wrench for the alternator pulley. Which I do have. I also heard there are some shims behind the water pump pully. Is this true? I had never heard that before. anything else I'm missing? Thanks everyone

I wouldnt change the alt pulley personally. No sense in adding to charging issues by slowing the stock 80 amp alt more than the larger crank pulley is going to already.

Never had any shims behind my WP pulley either.

its 1 hp of the 15 you would gain and not worth the annoyance when you are on a date and your car wont start.

Cool thanks, I do have a 130amp alternator to put on. So until I do that I'll just change the other two. Thanks again. Also thanks about the shims

ya, some jackass. This friend of mine had this guy with him last weekend. Thought he was mister mustang. What a dick, I wanted to kick him in the head. I knew he didn't have a clue but figured I had better check. This guy just killed our buzz! Anyway I had to ask, maybe he knew something I didn't? JERK!

ullies use an entirely different belt size

i ou dont have cats, you can bypass the smog pump as well and remove it to lose some front end weight

Ya not really what I was looking for. My stock belt works, just a little close to being out of range. I'm going to pick up the next size shorter than stock and check it from there. I'm keeping the smog pump for now. Not really looking for a race car setup. Thanks anyway

I would measure it before you go in and ask for the next smaller belt. Just get a piece of string and route it like you would a belt. then add half an inch for the tensioner. Or you could get a few belts and try them all and take the ones back that don't fit.

removing smog is not for a race car. once you have an OR h or x there is absolutely no reson to have it on the car.

werd the smog is just 8 lbs of worthless metal sitting there. yank it and get a shorter belt. you might see a 1 hp gain...

that's cool, I just didn't want to have to bother with removing everything. If i do remove the smog pump, what about the lines and all that stuff connected to it? Just remove all that shit? Thanks again.

So do I remove everything that is connected to it? Do I have to plug anything up?

I can't remember for sure but I don't think I had to plug anything I just removed all the lines. If it did plug something it wasn't a big deal.
