Angry Pulleys not lining up!

Ok so a 70 302, single groove alternator pulley, single groove fan/water pump pulley, triple groove crank. I took off the power steering and a/c for now, the issue is that I need to run the crank and water pump using the alt. as the tensioner, however the alt. pulley is out way too far...I went ahead and got a double groove fan/water pump pulley which looks like it may line up w/ the alt. but it hits the crank pulley.

Anyone know the solution?

Alternator - 1 or 2 groove Fan/Water - 1 or 2 groove
Crank - 2 or 3 groove
Thanx
or does anyone have the junkyard conversion breakdown, ie: models and years?

It sounds like you have a mis-match of pullies. Have you looked up the part numbers on the pullies to verify if there off a passenger car or truck motor?

I can vouch for the alt, crank, and single groove water pump as they have been on the car before I ripped out the a/c and power steering, my problem is now since I need to run the alt as the tensioner I can't get it line up with the water/fan, so I thought that the 2 groove fan pulley would be the answer, I bought it at Alamo Mustang, so I would hope that they didn't screw up like that!

What I think may be the answer is my original alt pulley, single groove water/fan pulley, and a new 2 groove crank vs. my current 3 groove...

I dunno, need to look at some of my shop books and see if I can find any base model engine shots, that hard part is I think most of the 302 car came with at least a/c or power steering, if not both. I might just break down and buy one of the underdrive pulley kits that convert it to a small (5rib)serpentine

I think on non A/C P/S cars backthen that the ALt bracket may have been different. Not 100% sure been awhile since I wrenched on a classic stang.

I use the single belt set up. Could the water pump of a AC car be longer. Some of the older chevy's were.

All the old Mustangs that I have use the same waterpump. Do you have the correct spacer on the alternator mount? Ive ran into that problem before when the belt wouldnt go on straight.

You can buy new aluminum round stock that is used for the spacer behind the alternator if it is missing or not the right length.Do you water pump pulleys and crank pulley's line up? If so,then it should be a simple fix with that spacer.

When you say that you use the single belt setup, do you mean, single groove alternator, water pump, and two groove crank? If so do you have any pics of your engine? tHANX

All of mine are single groove even the crank. The factory set up was like this. I'm using an after market set now. Like 12sec5.0 said you may have to make a spacer.
