Question about Defensive Driving

If i take it for the heck of it for an insurance discount does it show up on my tx driving record?

i think you can retake it later.. like 3 months later. for example, if you take it now, and get an insurance deduction, then you get a ticket 3 months from now, you can take it again... atleast thats what hear-say is. not too sure though, might be worth the time to go to the DPS/DMV and ask them...

you have to let the DPS know tht you are going to take defensive driving to take care of the ticket. in fact.... you kinda have to request it.

drew and i took it around a year ago and from what i can remember, there was some paper work that you have to send in to DPS prior to taking the class, then they send you something back that you need to take to the class to get verified.

try to take the "funny-bone" one. that's what me and drew took, and it was actually kinda funny

If you take it for insurance purposes only, it does not show up on the driving record. A copy is sent to your insurance co. Nothing goes to the state.

It is good for three years of insurance discounts. Then you can take it again.

" need to take it for a stupid acceleration ticket anyway"

If you have to take for clearing up a ticket...then do it.

You can do it for both purposes at the same time.

When I took it they gave me a form that had a copy to send to my insurance, and a copy to send to the DPS....I know each place does it different, but it worked for me!

ive already been athorized to take it for my ticket.. like a month ago, it was no problem cause the last thing i have on my record was in jun of 2000. i have till dec.. but im gonna not procrastinate this time...

teh reason i was asking was for the previous ticket. when i was stopped the jerk of a state trooper said " so looks like you have a record" i was like what... he said " seems like youve had a ticket before cause you took def. driving in 2000." i said ive had one ticket and it was 3 years ago, and that like this one was a minor infraction.

Considering ive owned since i was 16 a red grand prix, a red Trans Am and a mustang i think im doin pretty good in the not getting a ticket area.

I know on base when I pull someone over I can see any moving violation for the last 5 years. Even if you take a class for it, the ticket can still be seen by law enforcement. The class only takes it off your Insurance record not your State (i.e. Offical) record.

But you shouldn't be able to see the fact that they took def driving, or even if they deferred (probation), can you.

My assumption was no, which is why he prolly just ASSUMED that you took def driving.

Right. We just see the ticket and that it was taken care of. Def. drivin, and defered judifacation (SP) are almost always taken in place of paying the fine.

Yes, the funnybone class was as painless as could be i think. My favorite part is when jeff told them he was there for racing and gave a good story to boot.

I took it at the laugh one, sponsered by the comedy club. Not too bad, though at 9 am on a sunday morning, there isn't much to be funny about You have to state whether or not it is for insurance or for a ticket, since it costs less for a insurance only. I'm saving almost $100 a year! There was one slicked up hootchie in the class, the instructor kept hitting on her until she said that she had her "fiances" name tattooed on her thigh. Bit of a romance killer, if you ask me!

heh, oh yeah remember that one guy went before us and was like... "yeah i'm here cause i was driving along in my mom's eclipse when a mustang came up next to me, so i decided to race him. and i shifted mad quick y0 and owned him!"

so then when it came to my turn i was like... "oh reallys?" and i made up some bs story about smoking an eclipse in my stang soo bad that i lost him in my rear view mirror. the look on the guy's face was priceless.
