Question about intake manifolds

Ok, so I'm looking at summit intake manifolds for my '65 289.
Is there a difference in the deck height of the stage 2 and stage 3? like is the stage 3 a high rise or did they just cut out the deck to map the gap?
Stage 3
Stage 2

looks and sounds like in the description that the only difference is the air gap.
like the other dimensions are the same

I think the open part makes it look taller.

K, well, I don't want an actual "air gap" intake because my air filter is already 3" tall and I wouldn't have room to put an air gap.
I think I might go with the stage 3 if I don't find a good eldelbrock performer 289 on ebay

why would you put a mismatched intake with your heads and cam?

if you really want to be slow, start randomly picking pieces of your combo that wont work together.

intakes are cheap, never put an intake on in preparation for something later. it will actually be slower at the track despite a higher peak dyno number. It will also be LAZY around town. you are all out in the car maybe 2% of its life.

I would do the exhaust first.
Years ago I had put a 4bbl intake on the 302 in my truck and it runs worse than with the 2 bbl. Never did anything about the single exhaust with stock manifolds.

can't suck more air in if it can't get out

Dude listen to KEG and 95GTS there speaking true words to you man!
First.... Put Try-Y headers on
Second ..... Wait until you have three and four ready to go
Three... get a cam shaft With new HYDROLLIC LIFTERS! mechanical lifters are hard for the road....(like 95GTS says "your only on it 2%) look at the cam specs, it will tell you the RPM band. Stop looking at "stages" and look at the numbers. make your parts match. can't stress that enough bro.
If your cam is like 1500-5000 go with an Edelbrock RPM intake.
I have an old Fast Ford mag and that manifold made more torque and HP then the Victor and Air Gap on the n/a motor!
then when you have all that put it on. of course I will tell you (because I did this with MY 65) you will need to step up you fuel so get an edelbrock carb and manifold kit. I went with the 875 cfm kit, and I don't worry about fuel when I get on it, and I AVERAGE 22 mpg as well!!!! (yes that is a 4 barrel carb)
I PM'd you with an invite to come look at mine for ideas if you wanted, you never answered

just because you have heads, doesnt mean they warrant THAT intake.

more than anything, your cam needs to match your intake. THEN its a matter of whether your heads choke off that setup or not.

if you have a cam that peaks at 5500. do not put an intake that is meant for 1500-6500. you will be slower EVEN if you make 5 more peak hp at 5600

with an auto and no loose torque converter, you eill be even more affected than a 5 speed manual car. You might actually gain 25 rwhp with the whole deal and run the same exact ET at a higher mph. Your car will only get faster on highway in this scenario
