What kind of Audio systems do you have going on?
Im trying to get everthing together for car shows this summer, which means, hooking up the radio and putting in speakers. Just looking for ideas.

You got plenty of room and options on your car. Just depends how mild or wild you want to go. Do you want sound quality or volume. Just a couple of questions you need to ask yourself before you decide on which direction to go. But I do recommend you use sound deadening material where ever you can. Especially on the doors and package tray. It does helps the older cars sound so much better.

My plan as of now is to get a sub and amp, put it in the trunk, build a box. Put 2 6x9s in the package tray and put 5 1/4 in the kick panels.
I cant stand listening to the radio without a little bass, nothing thats going to rattle my brains, just..enough.

you can also fit some small 3" or so speakers in the door panels but be careful cuz there isnt a whole lot of room, or i know they sell kits to install speakers in the front kick panels....but then you loose your air vent, or if you have a rollcage its kinda a pain. I'd be wary about puttin speakers in the rear kick panels as they may rattle...

The kick panels up by the drivers and passengers feet. (Air Vent), I dont care about loosing it, thats what the windows are for.

if u want a very good system i would go with a hifonics amp+fi audio or sundown sub+another little amp to push your door speakers+cherwin vega 6x9's or what ever you prefer and maby a alpine deck to push it all. all of that will get u a hell of a good system.

well, unlike the other posts, i'm gonna answer the origional question... my car currently has a pioneer head unit, infinity reference 5X7's in the package tray, and i have a JL audio 8w3. i still have to buy the matching speakers for the doors, and an amp and build a box for the sub, but that will be my system... very conservative, just enough to sound nice and full.

I have one of the Custom Autosound head units. It looks like the factory ones, but it has an MP3 outlet.

I have 2 focal 10's in a custom built box to save trunk space, infinity kappas 5x7's in the back and focal 6" mids and tweeters in the front. i have 2 JL audio crown series amp pushing it all. i am all for quality not quantity. definatly use sound deadener, but not dynomat from car toys, its over priced, go to Sound Deadener Showdown that stuff is cheaper, easier, and just as effictive.
they also make a nice custom 5x7 you can put in your dash in the center, but the kick panel speaker are worth it, i had them in my 69 and i loved it

I know mines not classic, but everything I've got is in the sig. I've got 2 10" Orion P10D2s and they're awesome just in a prefab box, so a custom box should be even better. H/U and amps are Kenwood, and all other speakers are Infinity Reference 6x8's (component front, 2 way rear). Don't think you need anything fancy, flashy or over the top, but if you do plan to push a lil' more bass every now and then... I definitely recommend upgrading your battery and alternator just in case.

i agree with the battery ant alternator, i have an optima red tom and factory alt. and when turned up i can watch my voltmeter bounce. but high amp alternators are expensive.

Well assuming yours is later model like ur sig pic, it's probably about 85-100 amp factory alternator because all newer cars have higher amperage alternators. For a car like hers, she's lucky if it's 60 amps so that's why I recommend it to her. I know there's some of you guys who need 200 amp alternators and capacitors to run their systems, but I'm definitely not one of them! I also have Optima Red and stock alternator and that works just fine for me.

depends on everything else though, ie. headlights, electric water pump, alarms, you could run 100 thing off of one alt. painless wireing also makes a kit for your 70 to swap your headlights out for ones the have an actual bulb and not a sealed lense, then you can swap to an HID light. 100 bucks from painless and 55 for HID lights at VvMw.com | Vv Mw thats for the pair. i did these on my 69 and loved it

All very valid points. I'm just stating that hypothetically if everything is stock then that stock alternator isn't going to have enough to run extras as you stated when they are added on. I second the light idea because those use less amperage and give you better lighting, even though this is about stereos...
