Rear end gasket!

I noticed the other day that my rearend is leaking (on my CAR) :blkvnm: Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has advice or any special tips for changing the gasket out. Any particular gasket, oil, etc? I was thinking about just going to NAPA and getting a gasket and some good synthetic based oil for it!

you dont need a gasket. Just put a nice bead of silicon all the way around the cover.

good ole rear diff fluid, and a dash of friction modifier... go to autozone or wherever and ask them where those two products are and they will help ya.

did you used to own a previous gen maroon f150 in corpus? if so, i think i drank at your house or someone you knew in mid to late '03 at the CCFITS. i had a green '00 stang.

Cool, that sounds good to me! Yeah, I had a 99 maroon F150, until someone side swiped the tail end and spun me out on SPID at 80mph and totaled the truck, thus the 5.0 I got now =)

Ford part # is TA31.It is a grey silicone made for 7.3 diesels.
Ford part # for the friction modifier is XL3.Use 75w90 or
75w140 synthetic fluid.

i've read you dont have to use friction modifier if the clutchpacks have already been exposed to it for some time.

Not true. You should aways use FM'er in a limited slip rear.

If you dont use the friction modifier you will eventually
get the left turn/right turn chatter syndrome.

or one wheel wonder lol, using no fm can help both wheels hook, but only for a short time, cause those little disc in the clutch paks will wear down to a smooth surface prematurely, and will only spin the ole passenger side wheel :thumbdown i been there, finnally rebuilt mine, and use only the ford dealer friction modifier.

Use the friction modifier.Otherwise it will prematurely wear out the clutch packs as someone else has already stated.
