Rear main seal

How hard is it to replace the rear main seal and do you have to have a special tool for it?

well other than having to pull the exhaust, transmission, sometimes headers, driveshaft, starter, clutch, and flywheel, yoou can usually get it out with a small screwdriver.. then push the new one back in... not sure if this is the way the pros do it, but it works... good luck.

Hey, do it well and safe! it's always better to pull the transmission and have have the seal installed. I had done that to my car. Now, it's perfect.

I have replaced a clutch years ago when I first started to wrench and did not replace the rear seal. I ended up losing oil all the time and eventually did the job again only to do it right the second time and replace the seal. A small screw driver or a seal puller (specialty tool) will do the trick. The new one should go in pretty easy. You might have to tap it in gently to make a perfect fit. Just dont use a screw driver to tap it back in. LOL.
