Question Registering vehicle/tax question

My dad is giving me a vehicle he has the title to and which is registered in another state. Should he give it to me as a gift or should I buy it for say $1? Will the only cost of registering it be the $11.50 county fee (for Bexar) and the registration fee of $40.80 (passenger car 1999 and older)?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

It's been a while, but the gift tax is more expensive than buying it for $1. I think the gift tax was (10 years ago) $50.

I was figuring the gift would cost more and be more trouble. I tried looking online yesterday - found everything BUT what I wanted. I'll look some more today. Things should be really slow at work! Nobody is here!!

I know that almost every car I have purchased was transfered at a purchase price of $100. You wouldn't believe the bargain shopper I am, yeah right
