Reliable HP/Torque Through 5.0
How much reliable/streetable HP/Torque can be run through a stock 5.0 block with stock rods, pistons, and crank? What if you added a stud girdle to help support the bottom end?
Thanks, Rob |

Box Foxes Rule!!!

General consensus is 525 to 550 hp with a safe tune.
This is with forged pistons. The later hyperteutectic pistons not quite as much. Some have gone 600 but its on borrowed time. A stud girdle just keeps the parts in a nice pile when it lets go. The roller is the weakest of the Windsor blocks.

Safely ??? I'd say 400 hp on that year engine with a good tune although there are several people running much higher than that .
I had a customer crack a roller block with a N/A 347 in less than 2 weeks . The engine was maybe making 400 at the flywheel and it was built by Janke engines here in San Antonio . |

you smell that?!

couple guys on here making around 500 at the wheels with stock rotating assemblies. if you get it tuned and the air/fuel is safe, your pistons should stay intact as long as you dont over-spin the engine.

I'm not too sure what the hell happened with it . I almost think the block might have been damaged before it was used to build the 347 but would think they would have caught that over at Janke's when building it ........

BLOWN & STROKED way i like it.
|
from what i've read , 500 range is about max on a stock block, but like it goes you abuse it, it will break no matter what motor it is, so alot of it depends on your driven style and how hard you get on it, if u drop a ton os NOS on the car or tooooo much boost with not enough fuel your gonna have some problems sooner or later, so when u build it make sure you get all the right piece's working together and air fuel ratio right and don't over rev the motor and u should be good to go.

The stock block can take reliably 400 - 450 rwhp as long as you dont detonate it.
anything over that detonation or not your rollign the dice.. and main girldes do NOTHING for them as far as stoping the block cracking .. since they dont crack in the mains to start with the cracks start in the thin lifter valley when work there way DOWN to the mains not vice versa.

94 has hyper pistons so you are limited in that respect as compared to the 92 and earlier with trw forged. Now this is with stock rotating assembly. a turbo application will be able to hold more than a supercharger application, as will a nitrous (if tuned correctly) It doesnt have the power strain and the sideways tension on the crank snout that a supercharger creates. SC takes power to make power. Chris' cobra made 524 on stock longblock with an hp turbo kit. then 570s with heads and a victor 5.0 intake. Thats with non forged pistons and a great tune!. Jeremy's coupe with the TRWs made 565/640 on the giggle gas with a HCI setup. what should you daily drive safely? SC 400-450 and a wee more with a turbo. Plus the turbo you can turn down for longevity.
