Replacing the CD player

I'm planning on getting a new deck in the Mustang in the next few months, and I was wondering how much of a pain in the neck it's going to be to deal with Ford's wonderful dual deck setup. Is there any extra wiring I'm going to have to worry about? I'm also planning on putting gauges in the empty spot the CD deck will leave behind...Just gotta decide which gauges!

from my understanding, the dual deck setup is not the issue, it is the way the amps and speakers are tied in. I remember wanting to upgrade a while back, but when i heard the issues with it I just spent the money on go fast parts.

Its not that big of a deal. You can get kits to add single din radios to dual din slots.
You can also get clips so the all wires are plug and play ( go to crutchfield).

Mustangworld has a how to and I posted some detailed info of the mach 460 in the stereo area, you can find it with search.

The absolute worst case scenario is that you have to run all new wire for your speakers from the Headunit/ amp but in reality that is the best way to go.

I have the mach 460 and redid mine last Spring. I ended up rerunning all the wires myself. It wasn't that bad though. It probably is your best bet.

I have mach 460 and everything just wires straight up. Just remember to connect the remote wire.

I would, but I have a friend who builds competition stereos and he's getting me the hookup on a good deck because he's a dealer. Before you say, "why not have him install it?" I would, if he wasn't in Colorado

Its easy to swap... buy the wiring kit and the deck you want and do it yourself... shouldnt take long.a screen is a little more complex, but still only about an hours work.
