reviving the 65
My old 65 is now quite rusted and in very poor condition. If it wasn't my first car, I wouldn't even bother, but I just can't get rid of it. Because of the rust damage, I don't think it would be a good idea to try to restore it, better to just modify to make it what I want. It is only a coupe, so I'm not gonna destroy anything rare.
The 289 is gone, the C4 was slipping, and the manual drums were barely adequate. SO my plans change alot of things. Engine will be a 427 Windsor with either 2x4 carbs or 1x4 with a Paxton. I want the teardrop hood like a 64 Tbolt, so the 2x4 carbs will fit nicely. But of course the extra power would be nice with the supercharger. I want at least 500hp on pump gas. This needs a good transmission, and of course it must be a manual, something in a 6 speed sounds nice. of course a 9" with something like 3:89's in a locker or limited slip. I will need some wider tires for sure, no way this power will get down in a 2500 lb car with stock size tires. Rear will be 17x12's Torque Thrust, front will be 17x10's. Suspension will have to be changed, front will be a Mustang II type in a narrow crossmember, rear will be narrowed 4 link. Not much of a frame exist on the car now and rather than piecing it together, I see this frame from Jegs that includes a 12 pt cage. I like that idea of a good cage, especially with my past. Brakes are alway good too, 13" or 14" rotors with 4 piston calipers in the front, 11's in the rear. Power with ABS. White with Blue or Red with White lemans stripes with alot of Shelby appearing parts. Maybe black to match the 05. Filled with ideas, but first I must get it home from Hoss's and tear it apart. OH yeah, some money would be good too ![]() |

Well you cant paint it Wimbeldon White with Guardsman Blue stripes.....and you know why.
I think since your going to end up replacing so much of the body, black would be the wiser choice with white, gold, or silver LeMans stripes. You should be able to attain the 500 hp mark with the 427 windsor, just see what Saleen did with it in the S7 naturally aspirated.

You think that chassis will work good?
They make it to fit the 65, parts are cut and bent, just final trimming and welding to put it together. If I go black, probably no stripes Last edited by keg65; 01-08-2007 at 07:29 PM. |

OK, so no white with blue or danny will cry.
and silver, hmm umm, no I could go the original Honey Gold, but with a racing apron, teardrop hood, side scoops, and all the race car goodies, I don't think the gold would look right. I know I liked the stripes, especially when sitting behind the wheel and looking over that red with white striped hood. I do remember at one time thinking about a dark green with gold stripes or white stripes. Although this is all unimportant, a nice gray primer and all the body panels on the car would be just as nice right now!! |

I dont see why it wouldnt work, but of course I wouldnt want anything cheap. I know nothing of that chassis so you need to do your homework. The chassis is going to be critical to plant all of the power your looking for and to keep the existing chassis you have from turning into a pretzel.

not much chassis exist...
This one is listed in JEGS. It is a kit, the pieces are bent and cut, they have to be trimmed and welded. Unless the metal is cheap, I would think it is all up to the welding skills that I don't possess. need to practice alot, first. That front end is not included in the kit. That is the Jegster drag front, I would use a MII front crossmember |

I looked, one is flat and off the bead. I'll have to bring a spare.
It looks bad, but not as bad as I remember or thought it would look by now. I'm wondering if I should just try to work with what I have and just add a cage/subframes, to help tie it all together. Hmm need to get it home and cleaned out to decide, that frame kit is only about $600. Of course I still have to add a complete MII front end, as well as the 4 link parts. I know it will be for the best, but will really cost $$$. |

I... uh
who me? I wasn't there, where, when...huh?... hmmm. No, I had went out to Fall City to close an account. Since I was in the area, I thought I would see the cond. of the stang. Didn't expect anyone to be home, I think I scared your wife, when I went up to take a look at your deck and the dogs barked. Anyway, deck looks pretty good, actually bigger than I thought it was. |

Anyway... I finally got the coupe home. More rust than before, or less car than before, either way, it is cleaned out and the parts list begins. LOTSA sheetmetal ![]() |

need a few other panels and a few other rust spots to be repaired.
I need to find one of those products that you put on the metal to stop the rust. I stripped the drivers quarter panel, several little dents, but the lower rear area behind the tire need replacing. I'm not sure about the trunk floor part that drops down. Anyway, the metal has all those black spots from where the rust was, I want to make sure it can't come back again. Need to go check prices at Alamo Mustang, didn't find any other places, other choice would be Mustang Mania, but that depends on the price. I only took what you said out of context, but you said it! |
