Question Rough idle, and wants to die...

Ok, so I got my new setup on. and it was running fine the other day besides a little rough idle.
Here's the problem, when I start it, it won't want to stay idling, and I'll give it gas and it'll rev up fine. So I adjusted the idle screw and kicked it up, turned it on again and it idles a little high in park, but once I put it in drive it wants to die unless I give it gas.
Could it be the timing? because it is also getting hot. and fluid is good, hoses aren't blocked, t-stat is good. what could it be?

I had that problem with my new edge, but not sure they would even be related, my EGR solenoid was causing my car to lunge, and the IAC was causing the idle to mess up

Definitely recheck timing and the electric choke if you have it. Make sure you have the high idle speed set to a reasonable RPM (usually have to open the throttle all the way with car off to access the adjusting screw). The normal idle screw (easy access one) should only be messed with once it's up to temperature because that's where it will idle while at a light, etc. I'm not carb master by any means, but I have some experience on my truck. I used to have a Holley on there, but I couldn't keep the thing tuned right myself. I switched to Edelbrock a few months ago, bolt on and go. Haven't had any problems so far.

Dwell is another name for piont gap.
Since it is a cold issue does it have an elec or heated choke?
If elec did you hook it up?
If heated does it have the riser tube to warm the spring and open the choke?

I can ck it out if ya wanta bring it by.

Any evening after 530 or so is OK just LMK.

First of all check for vacuum leaks or any unplugged or cracked vacuum hoses on the intake manifold, carb, and dist. Make sure the dist vac line is not plugged into the constant vacuum source on the carb.

Dwell is different from the point gap. Dwell is usually best set with a dwell meter.

The dwell angle is the number of degrees of distributor cam rotation through which the breaker points remain fully closed (conducting electricity). Increasing the point gap decreases the dwell, while decreasing the point gap increases the dwell. Dwell angle should always be checked after adjusting or installing new points.

The link below explains it pretty well, except that it's on a 31 6 cyl. chevy. Ryan in your case the distributor lobe would be octagonal.
Points Gap - Dwell

True dwell is best kd with a meter but in essence you are setting the same thing the piont gap. You did a nice job explaining it however.
