RPM Outlet Rant

Disclaimer: This rant does not reflect the opinions of this web site, the Administrators, Moderators or its members.

I had heard RMP Outlet was difficult to do business with but their prices were good and I was hoping for the best. They are very nice and easy to work with when you place an order.

On August 1, 2007 I ordered a kit from RPM outlet that consisted of a Professional Products Typhoon intake, 70mm throttle body and upper plenum. The kit also comes with a Helix Spacer. I ordered a new lower intake gasket too. On August 2nd, the intake and gasket arrived. I was very impressed with how quickly these parts arrived (so far so good) but, they back ordered the upper plenum, spacer and sent the wrong TB (not so good) which I had to return, shipped pre-paid. By the way, in order to return a product, you need to follow very specific procedures or your shipment will be refused.

RPM Outlet would not respond to specific questions via email and Customer Service is only there from 10:00am to 4:00pm Central Time, Monday through Friday. (How does that fit into your schedule?) The phone is ALWAYS busy. I would have to put the number on speed dial and keep trying over and over to get through. It was not uncommon to take 20 minutes or more to get through. If you don’t have anything to do, try calling (281)261-6892 and see how long it takes to talk to someone. Did I mention that their Customer Service SUCKS?

I waited for weeks for the rest of the parts and kept hearing “Next week…two weeks…etc”. I called Professional Products directly (they were very nice and helpful) and was told the upper plenums had been on back order from the factory for quite awhile and none of their distributors had any in stock. (Did RPM Outlet tell me this when I placed the order? ...NO!). Professional Products said the parts were still overseas at the factory and they had no way to tell if they had even been manufactured yet or when they might be shipped, much less when they would arrive. (Chinese factory to truck to port to boat to a USA port, through customs, to truck, to warehouse to distributor to truck to RPM to … Get the idea?) Because I didn’t want to wait any longer I called RPM Outlet to upgrade to an Accufab plenum and TB. I was told this upgrade would cost an additional $175 but when I said the web site said it was a $150 upgrade, they agreed to $150. They told me both the plenum and TB were available and would be shipped directly from Accufab. After waiting a few days, I called Accufab to see where my parts were and was told RPM Outlet had not placed the order with them. Well, I went back and forth between RPM Outlet and Accufab, the order was finally confirmed and shipped to me in a timely manner. Accufab was also very helpful and even told me who usually places the orders from RPM Outlet.

When we went to install everything I was going to have a local speed shop install a set of gears and the intake stuff. Guess what, the lower intake gasket RPM Outlet sent me was wrong and we had to get one locally for the install. I then had to ship that one back (pre-paid) too. So, now I’m out almost $20 in shipping fees not to mention the hassle factor, packing materials, gas to UPS and phone calls. When I asked about getting the shipping charges back, they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about. After explaining what happened, a customer service rep said they would refund the shipping charges. Guess what, they can’t credit my credit card but will cut me a check and they only do that once a month. After not getting a refund in October, I called to see what the problem was, asked to speak to a Supervisor and he agreed to refund the return shipping charges. He said I would receive it the first week or two of November. After the check not showing up, I called again was told something like, “I’m sorry but there is nothing further they can do at this location.” WTF did that mean? It’s their ONLY location. Having written down the name of the supervisor, I asked for him by name and was told I would receive a check in December. I’m still waiting on that check. Keep in mind, the order was originally placed on August 1st.

So, I would strongly advise you to take your business elsewhere.

Did I mention...RPM OUTLET SUCKS ?

I have heard this from many different people. I am really glad people put this info out so more don't get suckered into the web of crappy customer service. I find it so hard to believe that companies run like this and expect people to continue to do business with them.

Our online store should be up soon and we will be offering competitive prices. All verified LSS.com members will be getting a discount as well. In the mean time you can call the shop and we can get just about everything RPM Outlet has to offer.

I have heard too many horror stories from the v6 world about them to even think about doing buisness with them. They all sound like this, shipping wrong parts and horrible customer service.
