I think it would be good to do the memorial cruise to his grave site and leave it there.

How about we set a date and do it?
I'm liking this idea, however I believe he's buried in Harlingen, which is like a 4 hour cruise to get there (according to mapquest).

I like this idea too.

I think we definitely should do a cruise. How about in April or May? I'd like to send out invites to as many mustang clubs as possible.

If the cruise to his gravesite is too long, I was thinking we could cruise the hill country/1604, then end up someplace to eat, someplace like Texas Pride, we could reserve the party room. If not anything, a couple of us could cruise to his gravesite and leave the mustang marker.

a cruise might be nice, but i'm not sure about the other stuff. i'd hate to see the man's death be turned into a circus... imo, of course.

how would it be turned into a circus? Its for him memorial and the money danated would go to where ever his parents want the donation to go. There is nothing cicus about that.

as i said, it's my opinion.

i do think that there's a point where we can go overboard. i just happen to think that printing t-shirts crosses this point.

we've gone through this twice at another board i post at in the past months. a lot of people had great ideas, but when you start putting all the stuff together, it's a bit too much.

Wow !!!! I remember this kid from a few years ago . He use to come into my shop as ask a thousand questions but never really buy anything . He was kind of a taller , goofy kid but in a good way . He was always very polite and seemed like a good kid . I think he use to had a baby blue or maybe a silverish color T-Bird . He would always tell me about plans that he had for it .

I'd like to say thank you to him and his family for giving the ultimate sacrifice for our country . God bless your soul ..........

even though it's a 4 hour cruise to Harlingen, I'd be down.

I think crusing down there and leaving the Mustang marker at his gravesite would be enough. We could take a collection to buy that specific Mustang model that CrewChiefLite linked to... It's only about 50 bucks 2001 - Diecast Mustangs and Fords

While I think it will be very sweet and touching to put the model on his grave, it will get stolen. Maybe someone should ask his parents about sealing it in an acrylic case and making it a permanent part of his headstone, or something of the like...

All of this sounds great I think maybe we should let his parents keep it as a token in his memory in a case they could possible put a few of his personals. Maybe they could put pictures and some of his military badges or photos from his childhood. I also think it would get stollen if not some how placed in the stone itself. If we cant go down perhaps we can all meet at yalls usual and sign it in memory with some kind words then ship it to his family just an idea.

Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito

the cemetary where he was laid to rest is 2 miles from my house down in the valley, I will be down there, for spring break, the entire week, if you all dont make it down there, I can go and take pictures of his resting site and share them with you all, at least we can see where he went to rest..and if you do decide to cruise down there, let me know so I can put some sausage on the grill to feed you all.....Richard

that sounds good to me. i think several of us will definitely be down for heading over there to pay our respects.

i doubt it will be as soon as spring break, but i think something will be planned for the near future.

We are looking at setting this up for the April timeframe. Probably the end of the month in April, on a Sunday. We will just meet in the morning, cruise down, do our thing, and then head back.

Details will be posted by the end of the week so you can arrange to be off of work or whatever if you would like to join us.

I can not help but express my deepest sympathy. As a new member, I had never met Darrell. But I had heard of him through several posts I read throughout this site. I guess what I am trying to say is that, as a fellow service member myself, I salute Darrell for the ultimate sacrifice he has made for his country.
Furthermore, his legacy will not be forgotten. I have read through this entire thread tonight and I can't help but notice nothing but respect and tribute to a great man by loyal friends and peers. Wish I had knew him. You all are the greatest, and Darrell is a true American hero.
With deepest respect,
Jeremy

I never really checked this thread out but I gave it a look. I never met Darrell nor talked to him but any death is a terrible experience. I looked at his MySpace and it was hardcore to read, especially the comments from his mother.. I notice there hasn't been any posts on this thread in a little over a month and a week.. I think everyone should periodically make a post on this so this member is not forgotten.. I know how hard it is to loose someone unexpectedly and it hurts. We didn't loose a member, we gained a memory. A parent shouldn't have to bury their kid.. Darrell gave his life for his country, and he gets my greatest honor.

May you rest in peace,
- Shelby S.
