SAR - 10/17/07 in my SRT-6

Were any of you all out there?

I took the Wife's (lol) car to the track tonight...

Car has the following:

K&N Drop in Filters
Sprint Booster (basically just speeds up the electronic drive-by-wire)
Continental All Season Tires (I think the Michelins would've helped a LOT)

Conditions:
90* dropping down to 87* or so
85%+ humidity - enough to allow the windows to fog up by the end of the 1/4 mile, and it was getting foggy outside, car getting almost wet, etc..

Times:

Best time was a 13.2 @108 - only got it once, did it launching in 1st with traction control turned OFF - it was my third to last run, and tried it two more times to get a 13.6 and a 13.5. Other than this one run, I never got over 104mph trap speed for whatever reason. I really feel like I left a LOT on the line with the 60fts

I must've ran a 13.7 @ 103 7 or 8 times - would definitely dial it in at that if I was bracket racing. Put it in 'D', hold the rpms at 1K, release the brake and mash the gas - 13.7x @103.7 every time!

Notable Competitors: (good to gauge track conditions)
350Z - exhaust, intake, chip - 14.8 best time
5.0 Mustang Coupe - exhaust, cold air, gears - 14.7
01 Mustang GT - 5spd - exhaust at least, not sure what else - 14.8
06 Mustang GT - 5spd - exhaust at least, not sure what else - 15.0
Ram Air Trans Am - ran him once heads up, and it was my 2nd best run at 13.5, got him by a .1. Sounded like he had full headers back exhaust w/cutouts, drag radials, likely lids. Killed him off the tree and would walk away each time he shifted...he ran faster earlier in the night but the fog/humidity killed his car too.
240Z - turbocharged (T28?) - 14.7
240Z - 100mm+ turbo 8.4 @ 165mpg :o
C5 ZO6 - seemed mostly stock - ran a few 13.0's and 12.99, ran a 13.4 against me when I ran a 13.5, close!
C6 Vette (zo6?) - was cammed, had LT's, exhaust, and ran 12.4's

Timeslip:

It was fun...first time at the track in the SRT6, second time ever. If I swapped to the Pilot Sport tires that some of them came with, I could likely get it into the 12's.

If you see that front splitter, big whale tale 911-esque wing, 15 spoke wheels, or SRT badges, now you'll know what to expect.

They are indeed RWD

3.2L SOHC AMG Mercedes engine with a Factory roots style S/C and a water/air intercooler
Auto-Stick trans (not available in manual)
3210 lbs w/driver
330hp / 310lb-ft
(Same Drivetrain as Mercedes SLK-32AMG, Same breaks, suspension, etc - is is 90% mercedes, which makes it expensive to work on and mod - thank god for a good warranty!)

There must be some kind of issue there. What were your split times on your other passes? Can you post some of your other slips?

Most cars will MPH a little better if they spin off the line. To drop 3 or 4 tenths you would have had to have hooked pretty well and I would expect the MPH to stay the same or fall off a little bit.

4 MPH is about 40 HP and I cannot imagine how it came out of nowhere and could not be duplicated.

Either way, 13s are pretty impressive with a car thats stock!

I'll post some of the other ones later on.

I was thinking the same thing, and trying to figure out what I was doing differently (or what the car was doing differently).

With this auto stick and traction control, it is a little odd. At times I would get out of the hole ok and then the 1/2 shift would break loose kicking the TC on so my 1/8th would suffer.

you should probably leave the TC off, that would help

With traction control 'off', the traction control still kicks in - just not as aggressively.

So, it is never really 'off'.

is this car drive by wire? if so it seems like that is your mph culprit

Edit: i see that it is. a dbw system would definitely account for a missing 4 mph. it is probably holding back a lot in first and second. you "tricked" it some how on that run. I bet its damn quick on the highway where there is no holding back.

Yea, the drive by wire is tricky. The 'sprint booster' is made to alleviate the DBW symptoms (especially from the launch). I think that is what caused all of the traction issues though. On the street, I seem to launch better.

And, the car is definitely MUCH more at home on the highway than it is on the 1/4 mile.

I was going to go back out there last night with the cooler air and low humidity, but I didn't make it out.

Maybe next week - I want to get it into the 12's like some of the other guys are doing, 'stock'. I figure I can shave a few tenths off of my 60', and cooler/drier air may account for better times throughout. With these continental contitrac touring tires (19"), it will be tough!
