SAR 11/7 with the turbo mustang

Yep taking the stang down to SAR on the 7th (WED) to see what she will do . All of us who are going will be meeting @ Montopolis and 71 @ the Wendy's. We will get there @ 5PM and be leaving @ 5:30 to give everyone time to get there, and then we will just head down 35.
So if anyone is interested, just meet us at Wendy's...doesnt matter what you drive. So far there are a few LS1 guys, dodge guys (R/T truck and SRT-4), and ofcourse some stang guys, along with my dads 01 Lightning....so the more the better, should be some good times . Otherwise if you cant make it to the Wendy's, hopefully we will see you there!

I think his car is fairly light (3300 lbs) but I do not know what tires he is going to run or what kind of transmission he has.

I think tires will have the biggest impact, but with drag radials or slicks he should be able to get into the 11s fairly easily.

Well im hoping for mid 11s this time around. It went 11.75 @ 122 @ HRP with the 57MM turbos and making 479RWHP/512RWTQ.

With me in the car (140) and almost a full tank of gas, with some other stuff in the trunk, including a tool box, she weighed in @ 3600#s. Im running the same as I did up at HRP, 315 Nitto Drs...and a stock T-3650 with spec stg 3 clutch and Fidanze aluminum flywheel.

Last time I ran 9.2#s of boost and had 3.73 gears. This time I have T-61s and 3.27 gears.

I'm the one who preps the track.Since people are blaming the prep for times being off,I'll give you some factors. It's not an excuse, but some of what makes track prep go away. When you have about 80+ street cars with treaded tires ripping the compound off the surface of the track and leaving the bald spots on the line, times will be off.It helps to have a mixture of slick'd tired cars to lay some rubber back down to substain grip, which wed nite there were about 4 cars with slicks and a slew of AWD's.Another effect wed nite was when the front blew in,with hi winds blowing, and dust in the air, which blows across the track and will stick to the compound that is on the track. One thing I've learned in 40yrs of drag racing, conditions sometimes will not be the most perfect, that's where you learn to set up a car for the conditions, whether it's going soft on the rear suspension when it's slick and stiffening it up when it's got alot of grip or detuning a motor, to get a grip on the situation.I see many, many cars go down the track, exit, grab their slip and drive right back to the staging lanes to go again, and see very few making adjustments to meet the conditions. So keep bashing, that's fine,I've had Connie Kalitta and Del Worshams dad say the same thing in my face that the prep suck'd,and the next cars that went down the track after them ran like a rocket on wheels.

Don't take it personally, Tommy. Most of us know how bad the street radials tear up the line. Nobody is blaming you, they are just stating that the track was not hooking like it sometimes does. Like you pointed out, there are LOTS of reasons for it.

I agree that you have to be ready to make some adjustments and not a lot of people do. It is pretty amazing what just a few psi in slicks will do. Shock adjustments make an even bigger difference. Even in a street car with drag radials and stock shocks you can do simple things like bolt the spare and jack back in the trunk and pump in another 5 gallons of gas to get a little better hook!

for whatever reason.i had 18# in the dr's and tried every way to get out without spinning, even taking off from idle.the track itself was like butter that night.there where alot of street tire cars out and awd's so that may have played a roll.we all where just hoping for better times with the cold front that blew in the day before.

theres always next time!

im alittle more ass hurt because i traded the wheels (that i really liked)off my car for some others because they had new dr's on them and we had planned 2months in advance to run on 11/7 and there was some grudging going on and i was gonna rip the other guy hard out of the hole but that just didnt happen.so now the chrome dd bullitts w/dr's are forsale.

better luck next time...

Coats,Don't give up on the DR's just yet.Try different pressures. Most I know run 13-15 psi.And if you haven't already done it,try to minimize the deflection in your suspension,it can be your worse enemy.
