would you paint yours or use the vinyl stripes and why?
would you paint yours or use the vinyl stripes and why?
its really up to you
it comes down to cost and if you ever will want to take them off.
if you can afford it and never want to change it, get them painted on.
paint cost around @700+/ vinyl for my whole car done professional with 5 year warranty was $180. I could have had it done even cheaper if i would have installed myself. Around 70-90 bucks. They still look good to me.

agent jones, did the guy you used install the stripes get them to line up straight? was it a pre cut kit he used or did he cut from a roll of vinyl?
i had them installed at a vinyl shop. so he had it on rolls. lined it up perfectly. So well i actually tipped him 50 bucks. well worth it for me. I could have them done 4 times before it would be cost of painting them once.

I had mine painted on by Darren, he did an excellent job and a great price. He had a special going through July

I just had my hood and deck lid done but if you wanted to go front bumper to rear bumper than It would probably run in the 700 range like Ray said. What I like about the paint option is that its seamless, you cant feel or see decal. The longevity of the paint over the decal, and the fact that I was able to customize the color or style. I was able to show Darren exactly how wide I wanted the stripe and pin stripes and wasnt limited to the cookie cutter options from mass retailers.
If you chose paint, I highly recommend Darren, matter of fact, I just got my car back from him after having the rear spoiler holes filled and painted and he did another excellent job.

if you can afford it get it painted, looks so much better IMO...

thanks for the replies. i was told they have to remove the factory clearcoat on the hood roof and trunk, then paint the stripes, then reshoot new clear. The thought of removing the factory clearcoat concerns me.
You guys that had them painted, did they remove the factory clear on yours and then reshoot? Can you tell by looking at it?
I know Darren re-clear coated mine, but I dont know if he removed the factory clear or just scuffed it before painting. Ill pm him and see if he will chime in.

Its IMPOSSIBLE to remove just the factory clear and leave the base coat unharmed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with scuffing factory paint and using it as a foundation for new paint. As a matter of fact its standard practice for refinishing over good paint.
If someone tried to remove just the clear coat and spray more clear, yes you would be able to tell. Possibly not on a solid color if they did not go through the color, but metallics would look like shit. Who ever told you that crap is full of shit. Yes, you can tell them I said that.![]()
