It's located on the shifter body. Are you sure you have a bad switch? Alot of times problems can be contributed to slop from worn out bushings in the shifter body and linkage.

im pretty sure in the switch cause when i try to start my car alot of times it wont even turn over...then ill put my car in neutral and it will start right up. Sometimes the problem is worse and i have to shift it back and forth between neutral and park in order to get it to turn over.
Plus when i had the trannyrebuilt the guy told me that it was lookin like it was bout to go...

there is plug with a wire that you can follow from the top of the tranny to the switch on the drivers side of the car on the side of the tranny i believe. it should not be too hard to change.

I'm guessing you have an auto? Shouldn't it be on the brake pedal or near the pedal. I think they used to have a microfiche type switch on the top of the pedal. The one on my mach1 went bad due to condensation or build up from grime. I was able to clean it up and it worked again. But mine was a 71 so I'm not quite sure it is the same as yours.

It sounds like you have an auto, all of the old Fords had the neutral safty switch on the left side of the transmission, they slip over the selector shaft and bolts to the case. They are adjustable. Yours may just need adjustment or the shifter linkage may be out of adjustment causing the selector shaft to not be in the proper location. It could also be the neutral safty switch is bad. You should check to make sure the linkage is properly adjusted and then check to make sure the neutral safty switch is properly adjusted, if both are adjusted correctly then replace the neutral safty switch. If you have a manual, they probably had a clutch pedal switch, but all of the manual trans early Mustangs I have worked on did not have any type of neutral safty switch on them when I saw the car, but most likely the did come with one from the factory. I know the manual transmission cars had a back up light switch on the shifter, but I think that was all they had on the shifter, I have seen those a few times before.

Ya ...... The jury is still out as to whether or not that was one of my better trades when I got it. LOL! I actually got it from 65mustangscott's sis and ex bro in law. I sold it about 8 months ago or so. When you got on the boards I actually offered parts up to you but never heard back. I had full black interior new , and weld pro stars a cam for a Cleveland radiator 3 core new and chin spoiler but I have since sold em' all. Every time I got ahead on that car I would fall behind on another area of that car. Finally I fixed the body which didn't have any rust except for a 3"x3" area that I welded up and I put it back to stock and sold the darn thing. That was such an oh' so happy day! Hahahaaa!
