Shorties or mid?

I am thinking this will be my next mod but not sure the differences between the two...will they both change the sound of the exhuast? Will they each have a different sound? What size should I go with? How much am I looking to gain between the two? I am also looking for a deeper rumble in the Cobra without going catless.

Oh, LTs are out of the question.

Any info is appreciated.

Mick

Which vehicle is this for? I'd find another mod. They are worth the hassle, but exhaust leaks are the worst!

if it was mine i even leafe the stock exhaust maifold's on it go with an x-pipe and a magna flow cat back sounds bad ass.even the stock h-pipe sonds good with just a magna flow cat back. leafe the 355 in it for a good mile in hour there is no need to cange the gear's.
do pulleys a good tune .

Long tubes are best for low-end torque. Shorties will give you a little more power but not where you probably want it. As far as sound, the headers don't really matter that much. The right cat back system will make even cast iron headers sound good.

You will see an increase in power under the whole curve with headers. You may not gain peak horsepower. You will most likely lose torque, especially with an aftermarket midpipe and exhaust because the car is breathing better.

Shorties...you can keep your current midpipe. Least amount of noise, smallest gain..not worth the cost IMO.

Mids. You have to change the midpipe. The car will be loud. This would be my choice.

Longtubes. The car will scrape and will be obnoxiously LOUD. Most power.

The bad, and the number one reason not do this mod...every single person I know with headers on a Terminator have issues with leaking, regardles of the header.

After doing some research after reading this I would have to agree with Tracey I have found more than one report of the headers leaking on a terminator. I also agree with the mids, Longtubes are a pain and scrape horribly.

The Mids-that's what we include in our 03-04 Cobra package. Comes in 1.625", or 1.75". The 1.75"'s barely touch, on some cars. That's why we use the 1.625's, most of the time. You do have to replace the "h" pipe, and you can get it, in either catted, or off-road version. Makes about 20hp/40# difference, on that one.
