This is one of the ways your state politicians can stand in front of you and tell you they didn't raise taxes....They didn't......they raise fees and other stuff but they aren't called taxes. Its all in the name game.

City & County Financial Management

So when your on the side of the road ripping the officers ass and telling him its all about revenue or asking him if he met his quota, make sure you call your state rep when you get home and give him the same ration of shit since his office is getting almost half of it.

MOST officers issue citations because they feel that the offense is serious enough to warrant one or to ensure the infraction will be corrected as in the case with most expired inspections, registrations, and drivers licenses. By issuing the citation, the person has to fix the issue in a timely manner in order to get it reduced to $10.00 or dismissed.

The case with Bounty Hunter seems to be an exception though as most officers have already agreed that it was a chicken shit ticket.

I can only speak for my City but at the end of the year when the chief covered our stats, we still average 45% / 55% ticket to warning ratio for the year. Its been like that for the last 12 years I have been there too. Some years the Tickets are the 45%, some years they are the 55% but its a pretty good balance if you ask me.

But in all fairness, we don't know all that happened at the stop. Could have been an attitude ticket ( no its still not right ) but in my experience, Cops kids and especially cops wife's are the WORST to stop. They seem to think they carry around some sort of instant immunity and bear the attitude to go with it.

DAMN CHEWIE!!! 20-30 a day!! I usually average 3-5 a day and warnings. You must go through pens like a mofo. Its gotta be a motorcycle cop thing, our bike officer writes a lot too.......as some LSS members can attest to

Well said BocSez. I wasn't going to resond to the revenue comment, as I'm tired of dealing with that type of ignorance. I lately slacked for personal reasons where the 20-30 a day declined, but will get back in the game shortly. There's ALOT of "I'm the most important person on the road" type of driving attitudes around here which I get the pleasure to adjust.

So please anyone coming thru my neck of the woods....keep your speed down, don't tailgate, yield when entering the interstate, use your turn signals, don't switch lanes back and forth to get a lousy 50' where you would of been, and don't throw your butts out your windows (use an ashtray). Oh yeah, don't change lanes and run me into oncoming traffic then say, "Oh really, I didn't see you" while you didn't signal and was too damn busy talking on the cell phone. Just some suggestions.

I must say that I am actually suprised to hear you guys saying that you only pull people over for 11-13 over the speed limit...

I have always gone with the "5 over the speed limit is safe, but nothing more" school of thought. I have just always assumed that if I run past a PO who is radaring and I'm going 10 over, I'm dead in the water to him.

Let me ask you guys this... Do most (or any) officers profile by make/model of car when deciding to act on a speeder?

I have heard a friend of the family, who is a SAPD Police Chief, say that they look for "peckerwood" cars.... and he defined that as Camaros, Mustangs, any import that has been riced out, etc.

So with that being said... Would I be more likely to pulled over in my Mustang for going say 8mph over the speed limit than an old Toyota Camery that is right next to me going the same speed?

That is my rule of thumb on the interstate, weather condition dependant. Honestly there are plenty of people doing 80+ in a 65 to keep me busy.

In a residential area, I will stop and mostly write for 10 and over. I only give 5mph in an active school zone. Call me a hardass.

Not I. When I work "speed" pretty much anything I light up receives a citation, no matter the type of car.

If I do, it's to check it out. But I'm a gearhead and appreciate cool cars. As for "fart can" cars...I reserve my opinion.

By me...No. But have been known to stop two at the same time.

they usually dismiss non moving violations anyway, so really its just the speeding.
and like someone said 7 over in a 30 is alot, compared to 7 over in a 70.
The slower the speed limit the closer I stick to it.
at 70, I'm usually at 80 or 85,but that is in town, out on the hwy, it depends on what everyone else is doing

school zone should be 0 tolerance!!, I have 5 kids (4 in school) and used to drive a school bus. I know how kids can just jump out from between cars and how hard it is to see the little ones.
I also think cell phones should be illegal in school zones, your attention MUST be on the kids, especially the ones you can't see.

I read somewhere that there was a law against using a cell phone while driving...I don't think it passed, but it should have.

Some cities have passed a city ordinance against using them while driving, but no state law in Texas. Hopefully one will come soon. Only thing worse than that are the idiots trying to text message while driving.

I NEVER go through Windcrest or Schertz in my stang and when I do drive through I ALWAYS drive exactly the speed limit and make sure my shit is legit. They suck!!! I even keep my hands at two and ten cause you never know when they might give you a ticket for wrong hand position.

Interesting, but then how would you explain it? It's a freaking fact that all of these small in-city towns ticket outrageously, frequently unnecessary tickets.

I see a few things wrong in your statements:

1. 3rd ticket...Hmmm maybe one would stop speeding

2. Your going to write all the small town cops tickets...Come get me

3. I recieved a citation for a front license plate by the allllmighty SAPD on a new car the very same day I recieved my new plates and did not have holes drilled in the front for it.

You give us bad names by using your job to get ppl back. Give me a break. Im a young cop at 23 and I even know better than that.

Well, I guess I could explain it like this:

Ticket outrageously, I dont think so. To be honest, for a lot of officers, traffic enforcement is a time filler between calls or directed assignement because of a problem area. Most of the problem areas and brought to the attention of the police by you....The Public....we respond and issue citations to curb the issue.

Also, most big city depts, have specially assigned units for traffic and only those cars are equipped with radar units.

If only smal town cops issue a bunch of tickets, then why do I stop people on a regular basis with in excess of 5-10 traffic warrants from SAPD?? Thats a lot of tickets that some SAPD officer issued.

There is a huge book full of traffic laws, in reality, once you start driving your car, a well versed officer could probably find a way to stop and cite you but most dont stop and cite for all violations. Hell, you can be cited for not turning off your car and setting your parking when you run into the store but I bet youd be hard pressed to find a ticket issued for that.

I also hear the horror stories of how some officer wrote a ticket for 1-3 mph over the speed limit, but when I ask to see a copy of it, it can never be produced or its one of those " well, it was issued to a guy I know" things. So until I see a ticket for 1-3 mph over, I still call bullshit on those.

I guess what Im saying is who determines whats an UNECESSARY ticket?? The person receiving it?

HOUSEofl3()()$T is EXACTLY RIGHT on #1.

Instead of getting pissed at "small town cops" for writing tickets, how about having a talk with your wife about not speeding.

Repeat after me... All cops are not assholes.

Every cop that has chimed-in on this thread has said they routinely let people get away with doing up to 10mph over the posted limit.

Dont speed = Dont get a ticket for speeding.
It really IS that simple.

Like someone mentioned above, when i have to go through there i make sure im all straight, wont even wear my hat backwards in case a schertz pd sees me thinking im a thug looking for trouble.
