so I took off the offroad....

I've been running offroad exhaust on the stangs since 2000. Love the sound - but this past weekend I finally gave in and removed the X pipe and put the cats back on. I'm a parent - my pride and joy little man is fixing to hit 2 years old and it's been bothering me that he had to hear all the unnecessary rumble. The car was too loud for his little ears. I'm now having to drive him to day care everymorning - so in went the cats. Anyways...... I've actually felt a little loss in power and the rpms hang when dropping. The funny thing is now I'm finding myself hard on the pedal just to make the stang sound mean - crap it's affecting my miles per gallon! So anybody running high flow cats? How does it compare to stock? What brands you running?

i'd think about maybe having a different muffler set welded in.. maybe some magnaflows.. they're pretty quiet... but idk what you have now so it's kinda hard to compare

flowmaster 2.5" 2chambers - 3.5" tail tips - don't know exactly what type of flows - picked them up from dallas mustang - I'm thinking they are the delta flows they sell for $65 a piece - 99 4.6L 5 speed - didn't know if I should go high flow cats or a less restricted muffler for better sound - just don't want to put the off road back on

I have a Bassani X with cats coupled with Bassani cat-back. It's still plenty loud, but not near as overpowering inside as an off-road H + Flowmasters were in my last Mustang. It's only slightly louder at idle, but very loud at WOT.

I too have the Bassani o/r x with their mufflers and stock manifolds (for now) but when I switched from Flowmaster to Bassani, it is still loud, but nowhere as to what it used to be inside the car with the Flows and Bassani X.

actually 50/50...... I didn't like the fumes either for my little man - they were too strong especially when we pull into the garage - was wanting something a bit louder at wot - the offroad sounded good but was just too loud

I;ve hear the ford racing mufflers and they are loud and sound really good. paired with the stock midie you might get the sound you want without the smell.

I would buy a set of hi flow after market cat have um welded into the O/R x and put it back on.
That would most likely give ya what you are after. As the cats would tone it down a little and eliminate the fumes at the same time.

Also the stock H will sound way different than an X catted or not.

Yeah I think even having to pay to get um welded in it will be less than a new x pipe.
My catted SLP X was about 4 bills new
