Just have him do a complete freshen up for you. More then likely syncros are going bad. I believe the price is 450 ish for a freshen up, hes the only one I trust and use for all my units.

my guess is the teeth on your second gear are a little too worn and causing it to kick out of gear. When I rebuilt mine it was exaclty like that. I've rebuilt a few since that the synchros were bad and they had problems getting it into gear versus its spitting it out of gear. Take this with a grain of salt since I am NOT a pro. Just my personal experience

He is awesome with all 5 and 6 speed units.... but ill say it before he does, t-45's are junk!!! Your better off going to a 3650 upgrade before rebuilding your T-45

When Ford went to the mod motors , they stopped using the T5 behind them . They continued to use them behind the V6 though . The T45 is a strong unit (a lot stronger than a T5) but has been plagued with shifting issues since it came out . After several years of trouble , Ford swapped to a T3650 in late 2001 . This unit was a lot better at shifting but it too has its problems . 3rd gear on the T3650 is the gear that will almost always give trouble grinding . The parts for the T3650 are super expensive and a basic rebuild can exceed $850-$950 real easy .

As for the issues with your T5 . It sounds like the 2nd gear syncro has failed and is now tearing up the 2nd gear and 1-2 slider as well when you try to push it into gear . A simple rebuild might be enough but you might end up needing a 2nd gear or 1-2 slider as well . I would not know until its pulled apart .

As for being the "MAN" on T5's . I'd say thats a fair statement .

You are wanting the 2.95 ratio . I can convert your T5 to a 2.95 ratio for about $950.00 . This is new 1-4th gears along with a new cluster gear , syncros , bearings , seals , bushing , fork inserts and steel bearing retainer .

It can only be a 3.35 or 2.95 ratio . 3.35 was a factory V8 Mustang gear ratio found in the 1985-2004 T5's . The 2.95 was found in the 83-84 non world class V8 T5 and then did not show up again in a Ford transmission until the release of the T5Z .
