Question Speaking of intakes.......

speaking of intakes.. i have a ? about the idea of taking the intake of an explorer. ive heard this done alot of the time but never have actually known all the particulars about it. Ok first ?. What year model explorer to look for? And what else should i need for the installation? Will it funvtion with all my other stock stuff(heads and clearances and stuff)? Do you think its worth it or should i invest in another intake.... iif so which one? thanx -will-

the explorer intake off a 96 (i believe thats the year) is the best one to get supposedly. itll bolt straight on to a mustang 5.0. as far as i know, nothing else is needed for installation. it IS worth the investment, providing you are wanting to run 11's on it. it is good for about 12's... maybe 11's, im not necessarily sure though.

is a good deal, but they usually sell for about the same amount as the cobra intake does now.. and id rather get the cobra. i think it looks nicer.

Last i heard though all cobra intakes were backordered from the factory, so the might be kinda hard to find right now.

i dont think it'd be worth buying one new...find a used one. like a 96 explorer in the junkyard

I believe it is actually the 96 up till the 4.6's explorer intakes will all work. I have scoured the local junk yards here in SA for a V8 explorer and I still havent seen one. I see the intakes on E-Bay all the time.

Correct me if I am wrong, but i believe that people want to find 96 explorers because they came with GT-40 heads as opposed to the GT-40P heads that came on later years.

Yep they will, I am pretty sure that the intakes are both the same, but gt-40's flow a little better than the P's
