    SSBC Comp S Brake Install

Figured I would post the SSBC Comp S Brake install that is currently on sale through Summit for under $650. I actually picked up the kit for about $550 a month ago.

Stainless Steel Brakes W120-23 - Stainless Steel Brakes Comp S Front Disc Brake Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

    Some Specs first:
    These are made by SSBC
    Rotor Diamter: 11.25"
    Rotor Thickness: 0.8125"
Rotors: Vented, Cross-Drilled, Slotted, and Plated
Caliper: Billet Aluminum, 4-45mm Piston Calipers, Clear Anodized
These are meant to be used as manual brakes to my understanding.

    Brake install

It started out as stock spindles and stock brake drum hubs.

    Started by removing the hub.

The blue paint seemed cool when I painted the spindles 11 years ago. Not anymore, so I cleaned them up in the blast cabinet. They will be getting a coat of clear.

First thing to go on will be the brake caliper brackets.

Followed by the dust shields. I put them on only for mock-up, but will be replacing them with a set that I will build with built in cooling ducts for a 3" hose.

Next is the rotors using the supplied bearings, seals, castle nuts, and cotter pins.

The calipers go on with two bolts on the backside. These allow the brake pads to be installed once the caliper is mounted so no balancing act needed trying to keep the pads in place during the caliper install.

By removing two hairpin cotter pins then the two hitchpins, the brake pads slip down into place easily. Once in the hitchpins and hairpin cotter pins will hold them in place securely.

Checking for caliper to wheel clearance as well as backspacing clearance.

By far one of the easiest installations I have ever done in my life. What took the longest was cleaning up the spindles and getting all that old paint and grime off of them.

Looks good! Sounds like you had the car a long time.

The car has been on and off the road many times since 1997. It is a C code.
