    Sub/amp help

So on the way back from San Marcos my sub just stopped kicking. I wasnt pushing it hard or anything just playing the normal music. I already checked the wires as well as under the hood that it was still connected to the battery...so what else should I check? I was thinking a fuse however everything else in the car still works.

Would have checked more but its a bit dark...

check the fuses in the amp. what system do you have? sub size, amp size, wiring. One of the wires inside of the box could have came loose. I would check all the fuses in the amp first. Are you getting sound from your speakers with your stereo on?

Of course, make sure the amp itself is powering on... does it have an indicator light? If it's not powering on, then first place I would look would be the fuses. Not sure about it, but I don't think they will power on without a fuse in place, could be wrong though. If you DO have power, then I'd check the wire connections as previously mentioned. Turn it on and actually go back to the trunk and listen, if you still hear something that sounds like a weird buzzing or feel any sort of movement on the cone, it's possible the cone could have detached from the magnet portion. I had that happen to one sub one time. Never had issues otherwise luckily.

bare power wire or remote could have touched the ground from a hard bump, pops a fuse sometimes. test light your remote wire, test light your power, put a simple 12v led on the ground and power, make sure your connections are good first off. also like said before check the fuses. hopefully its easily addressed, and not an amp problem. sub isnt frozen or torn voice cool, correct?

    is the amp light on?

if not - check underhood power wire fuse. if thats ok, look at the amp. pull the fuse(s) on the amp itself. if they are not blown, check the power/ground/remote connections and make sure they are tight. if they are, make sure the other end of the ground is secured tight.

if so - make sure the "protect mode" light isnt on. if it is, the amp will need to be serviced. if thats ok, check the RCA connections and the speaker wire connections on the amp and to the box. if that is all ok, the last thing would be a speaker wire connection inside the box to the sub.

ok so i checked the sub inside and out...all good

the amp doesnt have any light on, checked the hood fuse: wire and bigass fuse look ok

cant see a protect mode light, or if theres even one there (amp was mounted to back seat by best buy)

cant check the ground right now, cant remember how to get the damn back seat up to follow the wire
gonna try to make it to best buy or something to see if i can get them to at least tell me whats wrong since they will look at it for free

Ok, so if the power indicator isn't on the amp, then I'd guess it's not powering on. If all fuses and lines to it are ok however then maybe the amp just went out. Have any warranty on it? Most have like a 1 year limited warranty I think. The back seat bottom just lifts up pretty much. I think there are a couple little "buttons" to properly remove it but I think when I did my system I just yanked up on it and it came free. They're along the front edge of the seat for sure though. BUT overall since Best Buy installed it, I'd take it to them like you said.

yeah the fuse for the amp im assuming is underneath the amp cuz its not where all the wiring is hooking up at, so past that im gonna be lost.

its over a year old, only been used for a few months but i got it pretty cheap, plus i can always get a sony one to replace it if i need to

usually there is a plate or cover on the amp that you can take off and there will be fuses underneath usually the chip type fuses.

Really? It's usually on the side with the wiring or the opposite side. Either an automotive style or the glass type that screws into the amp. I've never had a fosgate amp though so maybe they hide them.

yeah this one has two plates on both left and right and neither when i took them off had no fuse on there, there is some room between the amp and back seat so im hoping its underneath it, prob gonna call best buy to see if i can unscrew it myself without voiding their warranty on the work.
