depends who you talk to when you talk about carbs. although 650 cfm might be to small for your setup, i would try 700cfm. but you might have to change it anyways if you get a s/c which I think would be better. power on demand and it won't have to be refilled.
Idk which s/c you should go with though, but I'm sure there's plenty of guys on here that could give you some ideas. |

In the long run the spray would end up being way more than a supercharger. Although initial costs aren't too bad. It's a toss up I'd rather have a sc myself.

I think it all depends on how much money you have to invest up front. The NOS will be cheaper than the SC setup for a carb...anyhow the ones I have seen are. Either way you will be burning extra fuel so that is a non-issue. The bottles take up cargo room, if it is a hatch car then you need to vent the relief valve on the bottle out the bottom of the floor board, etc. Setting up a carb based blower and keeping a tune on it can be a pain versus a mass air injected setup. All in all I think it would be go with what you know.
Why not just buy a 331 kit and bump the compression? Same cost and it is always there. You can find a used roller block and basically build the short block. It would take a weekend to swap all the stuff over from the 306 and then you could sell the 306 short block. Darren

I have a turboed 306,easier on parts than either of
the other alternatives. Did the B&M when they came out and it made for a fun ride, all stock 79 302,blower,shift kit,10.5 convertor in the C4 and 3.45 gears= 12.70s @ 108 .

The 650 is not too small. It will not hurt power with the NO2 or the supercharger. Which Edlebrock carb do you have? They have sold both copies of Cater and Quadajet carbs. The carter design is not a bad design but fewer people understand how to tune it, than Holley carbs. The The most common and easiest power adder for a carb set up is NO2, but you can install a centrifical supercharger. Vortec, Paxton and Pro Charger all have kits for a carb set up. It is also possible to install a turbo on a carb set up. You could also build a stroker like previously suggested, but it will use more fuel when cruzing than a smaller engine with a power adder. The power adders can be harder on engine parts. How fast are you wanting to go? It is very possible to go 12s with a mild cam, desent heads and intake, no power adder and a 306. It just depends on your preferrences and what you want to do.

With NO2 you are spraying in the extra oxigen so you do not need so a larger carb or TB. As for how fast you can go with a 650, low 10's with out a power adder is very possible. There use to be a class that you were only allowed a 650, if you did not run low 10's you did not last very long. The cirlce track guys build around 650 hp with carbs smaller that 650 cfm.
