Temperature Gauge Question

I have a 1988 Mustang with a 5.0 liter, V8 engine.

The temperature gauge stays right in the middle of the normal range when the car is up to operating temperature. Since there are no numbers on the gauge (other than the two numbers on each end of the temp range), I have no idea what temperature the car is operating at. Again, the guage stays right in the middle of the normal range and doesn’t really fluctuate.

Any ideas on what this reading might represent?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly that should be right about 190 deg. Which is what the stock thermostat is. However the stock guages aren't that great and also if I remember correctly, the temp can be anywhere from 180 - 200 and the guage will pretty much stay in the middle.

Get a mechanical gauge and install it,ditch the factory one all together then you will know what it is. But I think Adam is close for the stocker

I forgot to mention that I have also installed a 180 degree thermostat that I purchased from Napa.
