Temperature Sending Unit Question

I have a 1988 Mustang Hatchback with a 5.0 engine.

The gauge cluster is a 1988 unit with the exception of the speedo, which is out of a 1993 model.

The engine in the car was recently replaced with a doner from a 1993 model.

Question: Would the 1993 temperature sending unit on the donor motor work correctly with the temperature gauge in the 1988 gauge cluster?

I seem to recall that the sending units were different between the 1988 and 1993 model years.

The guage shows the car running towards the top end of the "normal" range. Otherwise, the car runs fine.

Any thoughts? Could the 1993 temperature sending unit be making the temp guage register high.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Simplest thing would be to call the parts store and get the # for an 88 and for a 93 if the P/N is the same you have your answer. And if it is different you also have the answer and know if you need to swap it out to match your cluster.
