the source and other drivetrain help

aight guys i have a 93 lx aod with a b&m hammer shifter 4.10 gears .

well the probles is that when i drive it first gear changes fine to 2nd gear also seems to shift fine but when i get to 3 rd gear it just wont shift rpms go up and doesnt shift to 3rd (well it might later but dotn want to force/put pressure on the trans)
and throwsback on the exhaust when i let go
my questions are the following

1.can i check/fix the tv cable? from a search it seems like that can be the problem.
2.what else can i check do?
3. im going to change tranny fluid and filter aswell.

some other info when i put it on 1 it runs good and also when i put it on 2nd but when i put it on D thats where the problem occors.

also the car seems to overheat when that happends.

clutch pack for third is toasted and slipping trany needs to be rebuilt

the tv cable wont effect it not holding at part throttle that woudl be a full throttle issue

will the car shift into third at any rpm ?

overdrive and third always go first in a aod.

nope it doesnt shift it just keeps the rpms going up and basictly sounds like if you were just revving it.

any idea on about how much a rebuild will cost?

i agree w/ dean.. clutch pack... i've had that same problem before.. that's why i avoid automatics at all costs.. if i break my tranny its because i'm driving like a moron andmissing gears..

one question wouldnt the oil on the transmission be black if the clutch pack had gone bad? cuz is red.

also the car had been sitting for about 1.5 yrs or so and i drove it a few weeks ago like 5 miles and thats when i noticed that the tranny was slipping and did all that. I saw that the gromming/bushing that goes to the TB from the TV cable wasnt there so i went ahead and got one and test drove it monday and it didnt seem to slip anymore but it still wouldnt shift.

so i dont know how the tranny could of mess up but im gonna have to get it checked

The AOD is a POS in stock form . You need to have it built and installed by someone that knows what they are doing . If you plan on keeping the car , I'd suggest having a performance rebuild done on the trans along with a little better convertor in it .

I don't build automatics but would guess a performance rebuild from a quality shop would run about $1400.00-$1600.00 installed . Maybe a little less or more depending on what you want done to it .

also do NOT shift a aod manualy the 1/2-3-1/2 shifter shuffler you have do causes the over drive band to be applied to match gear speads and wears it out SUPER fast
