throwout bearing question
this is not about a stang so i didn't know where else to put it.. maybe we should throw out the idea of a "other vehicle tech" area...
ok so on to my question.. i finally managed to get rid of all my squeaks rattles and odd noises coming from my engine bay... except when i did all this work today, my damn throwout bearing started making all this noise like crazy.. actually i'm guessing it was already there but there was so much odd noise i never noticed it.. so finally, the question is, will a noisy throw out bearing hurt my car? i will change it soon enough, but i just dont have the means or the money to do so right now...

Since it's noisy that a sign that it could fail soon. If it fails big time it could come apart and take out the clutch at the same time. So, it making noise isn't a major deal but I wouldn't let it go for long.

ok well my plan in the next few weeks (preferably after i start work) is to buy 2 things.. 1, a full clutch kit... and 2, just a throwout bearing.. i'll pull the tranny and check the condition of the clutch.. if its still really good, i'm just gonna throw in the throw out bearing and return the clutch kit... if not, i'mll do the whole kit and return the bearing.. does that sound like a good idea?

Noisy bearings are not a good thing . How long it will last , who knows ? If it comes a part , its like steel bullets flying around in the bellhousing which can do some damage .

Mine was nasty when it decided to come apart. I guess I'm lucky no real damage was done.
Once I noticed the noise it only lasted ~2 weeks then there was this god awful squeal/ screach with cluctch in or out.

I would change it ASAP, that's just me. I learned a long time ago not to let stuff go. It's just not worth it in my opinion. I guess I have gotten super anal when it comes to vehicle maintenance. I try and fix stuff immediately when it breaks or if I see something that could go wrong soon then i fix it right away. If I can't afford too then I park it untill I can. Like I said, that's just me.

well, it's my only source of transportation and anyone who knows the things that have been going on the last few weeks know that i can't exactly afford to park it or fix it.. i should have a job by the end of the week in which case i'll fix it on my first day off... but a throw out bearing isn't exactly a do it right now as soon as you notice it job... anyway.. if it goes out, then it goes out.. if it lasts another week or so then good i'll fix it.. i'm actually gonna listen a little closer just to make sure it's the tob.. because i noticed last night that clutch position has nothing to do with it.. it's all rpm dependant.. so who knows
