    Time for a new TV......

Well, my non HD Toshiba 37" tv is about to call it quits. I am looking to go bigger on the TV size because i have room to grow. What would you guys recomend and why? I am looking for something reasonable. I am not a gamer either.

Talk to Phil (Impactstang), he can probably give you a lot of good info. Price wise, everything has gone down in price as newer technology comes out, so you should be able to find a good deal somewhere.

I paid about 700 bucks for it back in 2001 or so. Looking to have something similar in price. ( I hope)

So what's an estimate of what you wanna spend or how big a screen you want? You can definitely get a 50" now a days for less than $1000.

Just make sure you buy an LCD and not a plasma. Plasma's are cheap but they get real hot and the image stays burned on screen after tv is off.

False. that would be true of plasmas 1 to 2 years ago but not todays plasmas. they are cheaper and have better images and they do not burn in any more. even if you do happen to have burn in, there is a mode that clears the burn in. right now i have 2 LCDs, 2 plasmas, and 1 LED. i perfer the plasmas over the others and they cost have as much. One thing LCD does have over plasma is that LCDs use less energy.

check out this site. it gives all the pros and cons. the LCD wins in PC screen usage and power consumption. Plasma wins in pretty much everything else and all of the picture categories. so if you wanna use it as a PC screen or want to save a litttle energy go LCD if not i would go plasma

It still COULD be an issue in some situations, but is much more unlikely than the older ones. As mentioned, they come with built in "Anti-Image Retention" features. A lot of newer tv's also have timers to turn on and off, so if you're always done watching tv by 3am, just set it for 4am just in case and you won't even have to worry about it.

yep. the newer models are much better. my gf left the wii fit on pause for about 8 hours on my mid range plasma thats about 1 year old and there was a faint image retention but i ran the program for about 5 mins and the screen was good as new. the other plasma i have has had images on the screen and no image retention at all.

I did not know that they fixed the plasmas. I bought my LCD two years ago and everyone steered me away from plasmas. It is good to know that they are better now because I want to buy another one.

Make sure it has all the proper connections for what you're gonna run on it. Just what I was talking about with price, a couple years ago my 32" samsung was 699, now you can get 42" for same price!

look at costco as well. if, for any reason, you dont like it - you can return it, no questions asked. they also come with a free 2 year warranty, where that may cost you $200 at a electronics store. when i just bought my 42" samsung plasma - conns, costco and best buy were the best priced. (in that order) but i found my tv at best buy for an open box for like $200 off.

I've never really sat down and watched a plasma. My dad and uncle both have the LED and i really like the picture that they're putting out.

yeah plasmas were hurt by the first ones that had all the down falls. but i like it like that cause it keeps people from buying them and it keeps the cost down.I use to hate plasmas and would only buy LCDs up until the 2009 model plasmas came out. my newest plasma blows my LED and sony LCD out of the water. and i paid half for it than i did the other two.

I have every type of newer technology tv so if you ever wanna check them out let me know.

I have a 2 LCD, 1 LED, 2 Plasmas, and 1 65" DLP. My dad was the same way against plasmas until he say mine. I ended buying him one during black friday and now he likes that more than his bravia Sony LCD that he paid like 2000 bucks for. the plasma i bought him cost me 700 bucks. both are around 52inches.

Depends on what you want out of your tv. I see these things all day and install them everyday. I like the Samsung, Panasonic, Sony there are a few others but those at the moment are at the top of the food chain. The previous posts have some good information on the options but what it comes down to is personal preference. I have seen and installed all of the above in several different houses. Also depends on the lighting of the room. Do you have several windows in the room that you are putting the tv in? Are you going to put the tv on a stand or mount it? What are you attaching to the tv? If you have any questions hit me up..

Where do you keep 6 tv's at? Before I buy my next tv ima go to ur place instead of the store.
