Question Tires

What kind of tires are on your ride on? I'm thinking of getting some Nitto 555RII but want to know what everyone thinks of them and if there is something else I should be looking at or considering.

I had my stang re-tuned (new pulley & pulley adjustments) and dyno'd and made 330 hp on 9psi. I'll be going to a smaller pulley soon in hopes of making 15-16psi and possibly spraying on top of this. I currently have Yokohama on it but when I get on it, it gets sideways in a hurry...any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated

I've got BFG KDW's (old tread pattern) which are great in dry weather... not so much when it's wet, it can get scary!

Same tires here
I have 275's all the way around, and I like these in the wet weather A LOT more than my old Nitto's.

The car had Nitto 555's on the front when I got it and BFGs on the back, so I bought a new matching set of the BFG's. You like them in wet weather? I had a similar incident one day when it was just a lil' slick after a mist. Was going from 90 onto 281(37)N on that nice big curve by the alamodome. It's marked like 35mph I think, but we all know no one goes those speeds. I normally take it at about 60-65mph when dry, so since it was wet I went about 50-55mph. BIG MISTAKE!!! I fishtailed almost at the end of the turn and went sliding into the other on ramp from 90 the other direction that also goes onto 281(37) before finally regaining control. My heart was in my throat... definitely scariest moment ever, because if there would have been a car in that other lane, I woulda been screwed! And this was with just a lil' mist, wasn't even pouring or anything.

the little mist is what gets ya. it just sits on top of the oil thats on the road. not really enough water to kinda wash it off the readway.

yeah you should go a little closer to those speeds when wet. Its harder to drive with only a little mist than a full down pour because when it first starts to rain thats when its the most dangerous because the oil doesnt mix with the water. Later the oil gets washed away.

Oh yeah, I learned my lesson after that one! When it's pouring which is once a year here anyways, it will hydroplane on the highway at about 45mph and the traction control goes all crazy, but like I said... it doesn't rain that much here anyways.

dyno at 338, they stick pretty good, i've jacked aroundwith them a lot(burn outs) and still got a shit load of thread. i think anything after either 275 or 285 you have to have at least a 10in. but past 285 you have to have 10.5.

I have Sumitumo 275's on the rear. not too good for traction, but they get good mileage.
I also have a set of old BFG DR's that hook well on the street above 40mph.

I have daily driven nitto 555Rs and done about 40k on them. I have never once had a problem or a close call. I HAVE driven them BALD in torential rain and had to go 50 on I35 but so did everyone else. You recall last summer? I drove through that rain for 120 miles a day every time it rained... safely.

I had Khumo MXs up front which are stickey and GREAT in the rain and nittos in the back. I prefer that mixed setup for maximum grip, handling and treadwear for a stickey setup.

The Kumho MX's were my next choice if the BFG's weren't available... they might be my next set when the time comes.
