tires, wheels, springs dilema??

Ok here is my dilema: I have a 97GT with the stock 16's, well the wheels are in great shape and all but I want 17's. There are three styles that I would like 03 cobras, 95 cobra R, 98 cobra, all chrome except the 98 cobras. Well this is where the problem starts, I am very tight on money and need new tires now but don't have enough money for new 17's and tires but I have enough for new tires for my 16's. Obviously my choice has to be get the cheapest appropriate tires for my 16's and just save until I have enough for new 17's and tires. So, in order to keep this in tech I am also wanting to get lowering springs soon, if I should get the springs before I get 17's will I still be OK when I go from 16's to 17's with the car already lowered? Thanks for any help or replies. Ken

Not a problem. What kind of drop are you hoping for? There are Intrax springs with a 2" drop and then there are Steeda springs with a 1-1.5" drop.....

Jay, didn't you have Eibachs that had a coil cut on them? That drop looked mean.....:2thumbup:

I have Steeda springs......

Fireman, are those the sportlines you have or the prokit? I don't want it slammed or to look ghetto but I've never gone off roading so I don't need the 4x4 springs I have now, so I guess nothing more than a two inch drop but wouldn't I need CC plates with anything over a 1.5 drop? Yeah credit cards are the mack but I only have one card and don't want to get the balance up too high, I pay the balance in full every month and I couldn't affort 7 or 8 hundred dollars in one month but hmmmm. that bread and water and top ramen does sound tasty especially if I can ride around with chrome 17's.

ha! $h!t you got it.

as far as CC plates go.. they are definitely recommended, but not NEEDED. hell, joestang96 ran his car with like a freagin 4" drop and didnt run CC plates.. but his tires just wore unevenly. and then he hit the median on the entrance ramp to the highway, and now drives a stealth.:2thumbdwn

Yes, that is nice grass, what color green did you have installed. Oh, that's a nice GT you've got there too. That is about the drop I'm looking for but if it were .5 inches lower that would be cool too.

Eibach sportlines will give you a 2" drop. Might be a bit much if you want longtubes, or a different midpipe. I think im actually going to gain clearance by taking off my x pipe and going lt's.
