transmission range sensor alignment tool?

So I changed out the range sensor on my auto transmission setting it to the same possiont as my old one and making sure things where all the same. anyways, after putting it on the car wouldnt start. so i wne tback to my shop manual and it tels me to adjust the sensor with this specific tool from ford or equivilant.

problem is noone has this tool. I checked Auto zone, Advance, pepboys, and Grainger. Nothing. I even called ford up (Gillespie). They told me they dont sell tools but only parts. So damm.

What do I have to do to get this part or get the sensor set right. I mean do i really need to sit and mess with it untill it finally allows it to start.

39.95. Seems pricey for a very basic tool.

Hit up some trans shops and see if you can borrow it for a bit.
Or spend 40 and get it over with. If there is a tool for it there must be a meed to use it. you may get it by trial and error or you may not.

I work at a transmission shop, I just adjust till it is right, there is not that much adjustment so it shouldn't take too long to get it. You might try having some one inside and someone below. Turn the key to crank while the other moves the range sensor, when the engine cranks, tighten the bolts and try to crank again. If it does, then it is right.

I put in a new trans and swapped all of this over and never had a problem.

well i sat there and played with it untill it worked. So I am good to go. what sucks is it didnt solve my problem. from what alot of freinds are telling me they way its acting I might need a new torque converter.

Advance auto had a B&M listed for $700. so i guess I need to save my pennies.

well the car on start up revs up and takes a minute to come down. once it does its fine to shift to drive. If i dotn let it come down it will launch out of the garage. then when driving the car it turns low RPMs. on the high way going about 60 when it would be turning about 2K- 2500 it now is pushing about 1500. then when it shifts the stall has to come way up before it finnaly shifts. so then it kicks preatty mean. the converter is still the stock one. I think I might try to put it up and check the transmission to see of it is like the old one with lots of peices inthe bottom of the trans.

the fluid is clean though. I checked levels this weakend and the oil looks clean pink. So I dont hink there is a problem with the trans.

well with going with a stall. I have some cams and head and what not to put on the car and the only thing I need left to upgrade is the stall anyways. it said I need at least 2500.

how much would your buddy charge for somehting like that?

I got a 3600-3800 and it was in the 800 range if i remember right. I bought a trans with it and I believe that was the break down. Does the trans feel like the converter locks and thens comes loose? Sounds like the pump on your converter may be the culprit, but these aren't an easy internet diagnosis. The lower rpm thing at cruising speeds is not familiar to me.

well its seems like it is shifting up and down when I am driving really odd like it cant make up its mind on if it wants to keep in gear or not. The RPMS run realy low too. I dont know. mayeb it is shifting threw all the gears early and that is causing it to run low arps. becasue from take off down the road it seems to shift a whole lot int he beginning.

fluid is pink or red? Should be red. if it is pink like Pepto, then you got water in it.

You should take it to a shop for a test drive, I know where I work they give free test drives and can almost always tell you what the problem is.

If something is wrong or broken inside, the longer you drive it the more damage will be done and the more expensive it will be to fix.

no its not like pepto. its clear and oily and I ment red. It just looks redish pink to me. I havent been driving it other then just starting it up and maybe rol around the block it sits int he garage. it has been there for over a month now. As I have been working on this and I am told one thing and its anouther.

I have replaced the transmission range sensor and the speed sensor. also while I had it up I put on an aftermarket trans cooler. I have some PBR front brakes I am waiting till pay day to get pads for then they are going on too.

So your shop can tell me whats wrong by test driving it? The car is drivable but liek I said it isnt performing normal so I figure fix it while its little and not have to replace the whole trans.

So what would I need to get your shop to do this test drive? I need to figure this out. getting tired of driving me girls honda.

dont get me wrong its a good car but I miss my baby.
