The true skinny on TB/Plenums for 4.6's

Ok, I want the true info on throttle bodies and plenums for the 4.6. I've read so much back and forth about whether they do anything, it's driving me nuts. Some say they work, some say they're a waste of $. Some say that anything less than 75mm is a waste, some say that 75mm requires a professional tune and is worthless if you're not running a power adder.

I'm getting a tune from CCS on the 22nd. I want all my mods done before I go to make this the ONLY tune I'll be needing. If a TB/Plenum combo is worth it, I'll pick 'em up and install before the tune. If they're not worth it, that's $300 I can spend elsewhere.

So what's the real deal?

I noticed a difference. I went the cheap way instead of Accufab, but then again, I bought mine when C&L was the only ones making aftermarket plenums. I got the C&L with BBK 75mm TB.

"Dragon" plenum saw the best #'s n/a and boosted according to MM&FF reviews and those were done in the last 2-3 ,months. As far as TB's it depends what your overall goal is? If your going with a boosted app or n/a with cams then go 75 mm, or minor bolt-ons with mid pipe, cat-back then 70 mm will do it. I'm thinkin about ordering a UPR plenum from Brian and I'll be picking up a 70 mm tb soon. I have minor bolt-ons. Hope this helps.

I forgot to add I noticed a huge difference aftering having a member on AAS port my stock upper intake. It flowed really well so I assume by adding the plenum/tb combo your gonna feel and notice the difference. good luck.

I would get a trickflow plenum and BBK 75MM TB. Thats what I did, but I P&Pd my plenum by hand and kinda portmatched my TB to the plenum(removed material from plenum, not TB LOL), but with the plenum I noticed that the car pulled much better above 5500RPMs and would go to 5800 before it woul loose power (this was before the cams ofcourse). I cant say much about the TB because it was done after the cams, but before I got a tune, so i couldnt hit it....however it did have better throttle responce and works like a charm. IMO they are worth it, and do it now BEFORE the tune as they will throw off your A/F...also get a JLT RAI (CAI) its about the only one that does anything. (that was also added the day before my TB lol..and felt a small difference just cruizing...but TB helped more with part throttle). Get your intake mods done before the tune as they will effect A/F the most. Good luck man, and post the #s.

its true folks, letting more air flow in and out of your engine DOES increase power :redrum:

75 never hurt anybody either

Here ya go.

http://www.modulardepot.com/?show=articlesdet&aid=38

It was back to bck dyno runs with the various plenums and 75mm Accufab TB. The stock run was with the stock plenum and TB. Looks like Accufab produced the best results.

Yeah, I read that article. I also talked to Jim at CCS this morning. He recommended the Accufab with a 70mm because the ride is and always will be n/a. So, I just ordered them. I'll have them on for the tune. :mustngsha
