I didn't see a pic, but alot of it is just dirt. Be careful and put the plug back in and blow out all the holes with some air and you should be good to go.

The dirt is just what builds up in the hole where the sparp plugs go. From the picture I see, it looks to be all behind the threads. Just blow it all out. Or vacuum it out.

If you look in the hole you will see more dirt. Archie is correct. reinstall the spark plug and blow it out.

How many miles does your car have Steve? When was the last time you changed the plugs or that they have been changed at all?

What happens is when you wash the car and under the hood, some how, the dirt makes it way past the cop covers, the cop's, down into those holes. They just settle down in there and have no where to go since the dirt cant climb back up the walls of your valve covers to escape. Notice how theres none on the other side of those threads. It's because they cant get past the threads and into your motor. It's fine. I can pull 8 plugs from a motor not in your car and show you if you like.
