    u get what you pay for!!

    well i sent my 91 coupe off to get painted a month ago and the guy said it would take about a week and cost about 800 to get it lookin good again. i thought that didnt sound to bad. well after a month of trying to get this guy movin on my car, i finally got it back today. the tow truck pulled up and i almost shit myself! the paint has runs all over it like one is can feel and see they are so damn thick...and on the hood there is what looks to be some fuckin gnats that got under the paint!!! or and he painted my tire and i even got some thick ass paint on my windsheid which he didnt charge me for lol...ive only paid him for materials, lookin for advice on what to do??? just pay the balance and lessen learned or wait another month in hope that the fucked parts will be fixed??? when i said what about the runs before i noticed the other stuff he said that shit will buff out..i mean wtf this guy has an actuall shop people. i guess when i said i wanted it to be black and shinny i should have said smooth tooo?? lol

    Sucks to hear. Maybe take it to a reputable shop and see about getting it wet sanded? Or see if its even worth putting work/more money into?
    03 GT - CAI, Plenum, TB, Pullies, O/R H, Catback, 4.10's, Sniper Tuned...still slow.

    ill throw up some pics tomorrow night when i get to take some and get them on the computer. omg i just cant stop thinking about it. looking for advice on what to do with this guy. pics will show more but its pretty much what i said..runs you can feel with your hand and flies or mosquitoes not sure lol

    oh yeah well he didnt charge extra for the extremely thick black shiny paint on my windsheild!!!!!! lmfao oh i cant wait to throw some pics up..u guys are gonna have a field day on this one...what would yal do about the remaining balance in my position ive paid half, should i just pay it or say thats about all its worth??

    Itll cost you way more in time and effort as well as money to try and pursue legal action.
    Sounds like a good time to practice your wet sanding skills. You will probably need to have it cleared again if the runs gnats and errors are as bad as you say.....

    I coulda told ya for 800 you aint gonna get much of a paint job. I spent 3 months sanding and doing body work on my 85 before taking it to paint and I still paid about 4X that for paint and I think I got a fair deal and I know I got a nice paint job.....

    sounds like a $400 paint job. id tell him to keep what he has, and if its finished correctly, you will pay him the other half. he probably wont, so enjoy your half-price, half-assed paint job!

    That's probably your best bet.

    Take lots of pictures, so if he tries to sue you - you have proof that it was atrocious!

    Then find someone (Darren?) to fix it.

    If you are working on a super-limited budget, then you may have to do the sanding and gnat-removal yourself before taking it in for the finishing...

    And plan on doubling the amount of money you are willing to spend. If you cough up a couple grand, you can expect an OK job. (Guys, am I pretty close?)

    i took pics today at work and emailed them to myself but they didnt come in my inbox. but on the phone they came out great. you can see the horrible spots im talkin about. ill try to re email them tomorrow

    i wouldn't have faith in the prep work before the paint was thrown on (ie. paint will probably peel off in no time). I wouldn't bother having him fix it or wetsanding it yourself. pass the word about teh bad service, keep your other $400, and get it redone elsewhere

    thats what im worried about is it peeling soon!! is it normal to still smell it when walking around the car three days after i recieved it??? it was painted saturday night i think

    Yup that is normal it takes a while for the paint to "cure". My garage smelled like fresh ppaint for several days after I first got the FACH home from paint.

    I would chalk this one up to experience and get the car redone elsewhere....

    Did he tell you to take it back to him ? I know sometimes when you can't bake it the paint still isn't cured completely (thus the smell) they tell you to bring it back in let's say a month for wetsand and buff. You can work on some stuff rt away but I've seen guys who think they can paint do some really crappy work as well as runa marathon on the paint and go back in a month and buff it out and make it look really good. But honestly if the guy knows how to paint he should be able to lay that base n clear out blindfolded assuming it's basecoat / clearcoat now if it's a single stage ummmmm....... Good luck ! N get your money back. Lol!

    Wet sand it. It's alot of work but it'll look like it should when done. For those of you that have seen my coupe, it was about the same way as the OP's. My friend got in a hurry when he painted it. The end result though speaks for itself.
    I am just a lowlife overseas contractor who is all about the money.......
