V-8 260 ci ?'s

Anyone have any knowledge on a 260 V-8, according to my vin decoder, my 70 originally came with one.....Any identifying characteristics? Is is worthwhile? Should I scrap the block and start over? Is it worth anything to a collector ie:rarity like a 390? Thanx guys

the 260 V8 wasn't available in 1970. That engine was replaced with the 289 in 65 and then with the 302 in 68 on. Odds are if you have a V8 small block it is a 302.

Hmmm I read that the 260 replaced the 6 cyl in 1970, and according to my VIN I have/had a 260, why would my engine code(vin) be off? I have found that the 260, 289, and 302 all had different VIN codes......

The 240 was a truck motor.

The 260 was a 63 and 64 1/2 V8 before the 289's.

The piece of your VIN breaks down like this.

0 - 1970
F - Dearborn
10 - ???? (prolly 01- Hardtop)
F - 302 2V V8 220HP

No, that was a passenger car I-6. My 71 F-100 had a 240, then along came a varient of that which was the 300 I-6. Ford called them the "Big Sixes".
