Sure, if you buy all brand new products. Cams are a dime a dozen used, now I am not saying buy "used" everything, but some things you can. I bought a used Cobra crank, used Comp Cams, new rods, pistons, rings and bearings, used block, sold everything out of it, made my money back, built it myself, and still adding to the list. Don't get me wrong, these engine are not cheap to build, much less mega impressive for power... but everyone has their opinion.

are you saying you'll get a turbo and 4.2L BEFORE you get centercaps?

I looked into turbo kits for v6's a while back. The motor can take a good amount of power with a good tune. You could easily run low 13's on a stock engine. A new rear end really won't be too much, just wait till you find a nice used one for a good price. All you need is a turbo kit and a good clutch for starters.

oh. btw...there's a twin turbo auto v6 that went 10's on the stock motor. I'm not telling you that you can do that or to try, but it's been done so the motor aint complete crap!

werd.

I honestly never looked into modding the V6 untill recently because I figured it didn't have much potential. But then I went back to a little website that I started out on called V6power.net, and I found a handfull of guys running the exact same turbo kit on their stock bottom end 3.8L V6, and running 300rwhp and high 12s in the 1/4 mile

there are a few guys that have managed to blow the motor after uping the boost, making 400-500rwhp... but that would be when it's time for that built 4.2L longblock to replace my 3.8L

I figure, I can have fun with it... and so what if it blows? I don't daily drive it anyways. It's just my toy now... just means I would have to save for the 4.2, and then up the boost! Time to have fun!

Id say keep the 6 and mod the hell out of it, thats what I doing to my stang. Im gonna build up my motor this summer using supersix motorsports stage 3 h/c/i powerpack, forged internals and then its on to the procharger where I can raise the boost with the forged internals.

right off the bat you have a broader tq curve and the stock motor can handle much more abuse than a 281. However, cost is the main factor. You get more bang for your buck with a 302 than you do with a 281.

i dunno about that, the 4.6 is a pretty cheap motor to beef up too now. I do understand it doesn't take much to make power from a 302, but comparing power/torque ratings from the factory for a 4.6 2v with pi heads/cam/intake to a factory 5.0 with e7's there really isn't any question that there's a generous advantage to going with the modular.
