:cry2:
It seems as though I must part myself from my car this week. I never thought when I started driving it that I would find myself attached as much as I am, but the speed and handling have grown on me to the point that I feel like crying when I have to think about what to trade her in on. Two months ago, we charged the A/C so it would blow cold. Worked great! Well, I guess due to the heat increasing and the continued use the compressor is on it's last leg. I noticed this noise yesterday as I approached my Mom's house and I compared it to the Hiccups. My car would hiccup every 15 seconds or so and make a clicking noise. I turned the radio off, listened, and it was there for sure. I thought just maybe it was the car dancing to the radio I turned the air off and it stopped I wasn't going to say anything to Mike until he got home from work as his day wasn't going the greatest and it was only 11:00am. I parked her and let her rest for an hour or so and took off to pick up lunch. Turned on the air and again, she had the hiccups. It took a toll on the engine performance every time she clicked. *sigh* I went ahead and called Mike, told him of the hiccup problem and he broke the bad news......Compressor is dying We talked about it, got a quote on replacing it, and both agreed that if we were gonna spend THAT much on the car, it would be on a KB or super charger. :jmg680: Not to mention my first gear is going out. Or that she does have almost 69k miles, and we know for a fact 12k are ROUGH miles. Conclusion was to take our loss and trade. We thought about selling it outright, but we will never come close to getting what we owe. I never thought I would be this sad over a car. After test driving some trucks last night I realize just how much I enjoy driving my 03. Taking turns around the corners, putting the pedal to the floor....*sigh* So, to all my fellow mustang owners, go out and enjoy your car. You never know when you will have to part ways As far as what I'm getting...I have no clue. Wasn't prepared to have to look. ![]() |

I read your thread on TSS, sorry to hear about what happened but I wouldn't give up on it just yet. How much were you quoted for a replacement compressor?

Why trade it if you owe too much $$ and get further upside down with a new vechile that will depreciate faster anyway?
Go find a good used tranny and swap it out should run less than $500 if you (or Hubby) can sling a wrench at all. Replace the compressor your self and get a shop to vac it down and recharge the system again should be around $500 $600 tops. So for a grand it is fixed and you drive it to payoff and then get a vechile. That would be my choice but you gotta do what is best for your situation and I fell your pain. Just giving my .02 on the situation.

Sorry to hear about your baby Margaret! It is bad news indeed. I'm not much of a car person but I wouldn't have thought that it would be so much to come to the point where you'd rather trade it in. Either way- good luck!!

You're gonna trade it because of a bad compressor and only 69k miles? My compressor went out like 5 years ago and I had over 200k on the car back then. I never even considered trading it. I just removed the whole system all together. Yea, sometimes it can get hot, but overall, the fun of driving it more then makes up for it. Besides, it's just that much more weight gone. Anyway, even if you do replace the things you need, you'll spend way less then what you owe (which will be trasnfered to the new loan). I don't think higher car payments are a better solution than a repair bill.

Don't get rid of your baby just because she is sick. I'm sure you can find a way of getting it fixed at a reasonable cost. I'm sure some members here can be of help too.

Thanks for all the reply's.
As far as finding a mechanic and stuff to work on her, THAT is not the problem. I wouldn't trust anyone, really, to do that kind of work except Mike (or someone he took the car to). After an even more depressing day, I ended up taking her to the shop and having the a/c charged and oil added. Took 3 pounds and a thing of oil. The noise is better, and it blows colder, but nonetheless, still hiccups. :thumbdown There's a few ideas being tossed around everything from replacing parts to trading in. It doesn't help when My mom is really pushing me selling it, regardless if I like it, so she can "reason with herself" for buying her a new car. Ugh, what a mess this is. Anyway, thanks again for all the words of advice and encouragement. Between Mike and Bumbera's I'm sure we can get her fixed :mick: |

Well, we should know something tomorrow as to the TRUE fate of her.
The more and more this goes on it seems to be the best thing to do (trade in) Kevin, you could always just pick up an extra "fixer-upper." :jmg680: |
