WARNING (JAIL TIME!!)

This was in College Station, Texas about 5 minutes ago!

So I was exiting off of Welbourn onto University towards Northgate. In order for me to get into my turning lane I must cross 2 lanes. The car that I was following stopped short inorder to turn into a parking lot while still in the exit lane. I was in first gear and there was traffic coming so I had to hurry and get in front of them. After accelerating not past 3K RPM I shifted into second which chirped my tires a little bit.

After I turn I get pulled over by a motorcycle cop who tells me it's my lucky day because he is working overtime and doesn't want to take me to jail. I said why would you take me to jail?!?!?

Apparently since the F&F came out, the state has passed a law that anyone who looses traction while driving will be taken to jail!

WTF???? A damn auto economy 4 mother f*cking banger civic can chirp the tires!

Whatever, the cop was nice and did give me a break I suppose. When he brought up the F&F I said don't even get me started... I hate that movie!

What is yalls input???

Looks like Will is screwed, his car is always sideways.

However, I've never heard anything about this law...

I'd say that it doesnt matter what kind of car you drive. At least you dont have to hassle with a ticket.

i think the cop is stretching that a little, granted there is alot of officer discression, but i think he had a stick up his butt. I HIGHLY doubt that a cop would take you to jail for losing traction(unless it was intentional)

I'm going to have to call BS on that one.

The state passed a law to take people to jail because a new movie that came out has drifting in it?....

i know there is something that chirping the tires can fall into (maybe exhibition of speed?) but not a new thing they made just cuz of the movie, hopefully one of our stang loving officers on here will chime in on this one...

Im gonna call BS too. I mean The Fast and Furious 3 came out this month. 99% of traffic laws go into effect Sept 1 after legislative sessions. I dont think its that new law time of year.

Guess it could be reallllllllllllyyyyy streched into reckless driving...and I mean really stretched. But a F&F law....cmon. not that I have heard of.

ive heard of "excessive acceleration" before.

although, TECHNICALLY... you could argue that, because if you're tires are peeling, you're not accelerating (not enough to be EXCESSIVE atleast) because there is no traction. haha.

im thinkin if this is true, they made a big mistake, because there will be people getting off left and right for this ticket, if they get one. its just too easy to lose traction.

plus... older tires (or tires that are rated lower, like T rated or something) will squeak when turning. like, the tires i have right now have plenty of tread left, but they were out in the sun so long before i put them on that they squeal when i turn around some corners. there is no REAL way to enforce this law effectively... if it is a law.

Well thank you, but to be totally honest, its just my way of lulling everyone into a sense of security. That way when they chirp thier tires, I can arrest them and write more tickets to get that toaster oven I have had my eye on. Job Security Baby!!!!

In reality though, I looked and cant find anything covering that. Nor have I received any legislative updates stating that such a law is going into effect.

I think it was just a scare tactic employed by the officer. I mean think about it. He said it to one person who posted it on a web site and now several of us are discussing wether or not its true, probably talking to others about it and so on.

What happens if your tires make no noise when they spin?

Will's been pulled over for exhibition of acceleration in his 69 for peeling out leaving a parking lot. The cop was going to give him a ticket, but Will told him he'd just put a new clutch in and it wasn't adjusted right, so it was either spin or die. The cop gave him a warning, and to prove his point as he was leaving he dumped the clutch without using any gas, and limped off down the road. {edit: this was like 5 years ago.}

For future reference....

Next time ya'll plan on doing a burnout somewhere on the street be sure and roll through a puddle of water that is in the road and then do it.

I've been pulled over before but the Officer said that since I went through some water and it occurred that he could not cite me.
