One guy did not too long ago don't remember who it was or how much the ticket was but that was the only reason he got pulled over.

Yeah, it's against the law to run a car after a certain year w/o cats. I know for sure 1980 and up are suppose to have cats. You will fail your inspection at some places because of it. You will just have to ask around on the boards for someone who knows someone who knows of a shop that may over look that particular issue. :jeff:

im just worried bc i live in a really picky neighboorhood does anyone one know how much its gonna cost me when i get caught. i actually got..ok ill tell the story.

i was driving down the road at about 28mph speed limit is 30. a cop on a side road like a T. pulled out infront of me and was going really slow like 15mph. i just followed him slowly. then we came to a stop sign and the cop sat there for like 10 sec. then he turned which happened to be the way i was going. i was starting to get suspious. this road had a median that was paived. he pulls into it and stops. im like oh shit oh shit not another ticket. and sure enough he starts to follow me. he follows me for about 2 miles real close. i was just waiting for the lights. but then he just stops in the middle of the road (these are small roads barly 2 cars wide, its in Hill Country Village for you that know where that is). and i drive home. i have no idea what he was doing. but i know for a fact that he was following me. :thumbdown :thumbdown

You got some bad luck bro! My car will not have cats as long as I live in SA, and I have never had a warning or anything like that from SAPD. Once at SAC (San Pedro High) I had a Campus Police Officer tell me my car was kind of loud, but he couldn't ticket me.... :jmg680:

I would have to double check but as far as I can remember, an officer can not write you a citation for no cats. You would just fail your state safety inspection. and to be honest, in a non-emissions county like Bexar, I have never had an inspection station look under my car or hood to even check emissions equipment.

The closest violation I can think of is excessive crank case emissions which to me means smoke emitted from the exhaust.

Oh, and on a side note, as a courtesy to a shop that gave you an easy inspection or performed an illegal mod to your car, I wouldn’t name or describe the location as they can be heavily fined for performing them. Also, if you are ever traveling through Converse, let me know. I would love to have the opportunity to follow you too, just to see what the big deal is. Why should HCV have all the fun? Us illiterate, sticker reading, crooked cops are everywhere ya know!

the ticket may not be for 'no cats' but you can get one for a noise violation.

well, first off....HCV and hollywood park cops are notorious for writing tickets on ANY violation. just dont get outta line in there, and you should be fine.

next, not all cops are jerks. remember, their job is very stressful. they never know who they are pulling over or if you have a weapon, they see the worst of people - violence, strung out, etc. they also have to deal with death on a regular basis. seeing the result of a bad accident, dead children or some one that blew their head off can be hard to deal with. remember all that next time you are going 2 miles over the speed limit. i used to be upset about being pulled over. then i realized it was my fault for breaking the law. dont take your frustration out on the police. it could be that same officer who shows up to save your life one night.

i dint mean to rant, but i know we have police officers who post on these boards, and they are cool guys. get to know one before talking bad about one. :mick:

they can most certainly give ya a ticket for no cats. in fact they can give you a ticket for any aftermarket part that isn't CARB or DOT certified. But will they? usually not.

I second that, asked my uncle today and he said yes. He wouldn't write a ticket for it unless the offender was being a jerk or an a$$hole. But he did warn me about DPS troopers. He said they are real picky and I can speak from experiance on that. I got pulled over by a trooper just for no license plate on the front of the car.
