What are everyone's thoughts on nitrous?

Opinions? I was thinking of running a NX setup instead of a supercharger..mainly for cost reasons. The EFI Stage 1 kit is what I'm looking at getting, it seems like you can really work with it. I'd rather have a S/C, but for the cost of n2o, you can't beat it. I really just want it for track runs, so its a cheap investment to fit the purpose. Anyone with advice, pros, or cons? *waits for Nighthawk to chime in

you can throw a 150 shot at it without any real trouble, if you just retard your timing a little (or get a chip burned). If you don't get a chip you will need to get a timing adjuster for your car. I personally am a big fan of nitrous when used right. All the kits that I have seem come with a WOT switch, but to be totally safe, I would also get a window switch. One thing to keep in mind though is that the initial investment in nitrous is much less, but you have to pay to refill the bottle ( and that can get expensive, just ask JMG).

100 shot only lasts a week or less.......Always need more power. I started with a 75 shot...That lasted 1 day....Then bumped to a 100 shot, that lasted 2 hours...bypassed the 125 and went for the big dawg 150.

Sounds good. I was thinking of doing a 150 shot, and its a wet kit. I bought the kit used and its got all kinds of accessories with it. It has the jets for 50-150 shot, a window switch, WOT switch, remote bottle opener, lots of stuff. Yea, I kinda figured refilling would eventually get expensive, but hey, its not cheap to go fast..right? I got a buddy here with a Dakota R/T that keeps talking mess(Paul a.k.a. YAAAAABUUDDYY probably knows him, its Troy, he was at dyno day)so I gotta spank em at the track this summer

use that window switch...it will save your plastic intake.

also, always start low, I would put 50-75 shot jets in after you get it installed. Make sure everything is in check and nothing seems abnormal on the juice. after everything checks out you can then up the shot.

I recommend getting some colder heat-range spark plugs also.

A bottle heater will help you get the most power out of your shot. You want optimum bottle pressure when you spray.

Cool, what do you gap them at? Is it the same gap as factory?

i think NGK TR6 are the plugs everyone used when I was reading up on it, but plug type is not a huge factor. Just have to make sure they are 1 or 2 heat ranges colder than the factory plug.

just make sure your window switch is wired and working, double check the nitrous install, and ALWAYS double/tripple check your jets. Make sure the fuel jet matches the nitrous jet and make sure there are jets in both locations. I actually have two friends that left out a nitrous jet...needless to say the results were not pretty. And they're not dumb people, sometimes ya just forget things...and thats an expensive thing to forget.

OUCH, that had to hurt...Nothing like a 1000 shot to wake the ol' 4.6 up....

Also, if you go with a NOS kit (I don't know about other companies). In their instruction manual, it will have different heat range plugs and gap recommendations to use with what mods you have. Right now I am using Autolite AR94, gapped at .30 thousandths. The mrs' blown car is using the NGK TR6's. I am probably gonna put the NGK's in my nitrous car, but the Autolites have been fine and it was what was recommended in the instruction manual.

Brian, hope I am not hijacking this thread....cause God knows, you have really helped me out in the past.

I am running Nitrous Oxide Systems Dry kit. It came with everything...WOT switch, RPM window switch with 2800 and 6000 pills, as well as a 75, 100, 125 and a 150 shot jets. All I bought was an aircraft toggle to arm/disarm system. (it came with a cheesy little splastic toggle). I put the switch in the center console where the accessory 12 volt plug is. That way I didn't have to drill holes and the plug could be put back in, if I ever removed the nitrous kit.
