what do you do when...?

so what would you do if two days ago, your dog destroyed his metal cage. so when you got home, he was just chillin.

then what would you do if 2 days later, (today) you go to work and when you get home 2 sets of blinds and a door molding are destoryed?

Look into training the dog to get him/her over their separation anxiety.

kick it's ass, sea-bass!!

j/k

i'd say that dog has severe separation anxiety... much like our dog, Hoser, does...

difference being that Hoser isn't big enough to really break anything.

^^^------------ you'd give up that easy? well i feel sorry for you then.

brad-- i can bring the cage down when i come for xmas if you have a welder. im not too entirely sure i can find all the pieces that were broken off though, and besides they are all bent to hell. even so, he'd just break right thru the thing again.

i looked into better cages for him. the best i could find was another wire-type cage like he had before, but it is made of chrome... blingin. only problem is... its 230$$$ and i still dont really have any guarantee that he cant break out of that either, you know?

my neighbor is a vet student and she said she could get some pills for seperation anxiety, im guessing its kind of a downer drug. not real big on drugging my dog, but if a few of them pills gets rid of his problem, thatd be cool...

to all who said "train him" do you mean do it myself or send him to a training place? because i mean, ive been trying to train him myself... kinda hard to do because i dont really know how to do it without him destroying more stuff..

That all depends...how much time do you have to "spare" on training the dog? It is time intensive, not in the fact of amount as much as consistency. 20-30 minutes a day will be enough, but the routine prior to and during the training has to remain the same (only praise for the dog being verbal-once for each item trained) I could go on for days on the techniques (the are like as*holes, so they are many)

As for finding someplace to train him...do you want to take him and work with him while getting the lesson on what to do? or do you want to just drop him off and let the trainer do his/her thing? For these options go to your local yellow pages, call, meet with different trainers (not the pet store ones), and see what they have to offer. You'll also get the opportunity to see their customers and their dogs. my .02
