What do you recommend?
Hello,
I just bought my first mustang and just bought a few different parts for it. It's a 92 GT. I just bought 3.73 gears, bbk short tube headers with a O/R H- pipe, along with a catback exhaust system, a cold air induction kit, and last, but not least a performance pulley kit. I wanted to upgrade my intake manifold as well, and was wondering which one you recommend. I'm not looking for anything too crazy, something that's good for daily driving and goes good with my current almost stock setup. I personally like the cobra intake, and what do you think about the Typhoon intake. Any info is appreciated, and also if I upgrade my intake manifold will I have to get a new throttle body or anything else? -ryan Last edited by ryoryo; 07-30-2007 at 12:41 AM. |

looks mean, workin' on the fast

you dont have to get a new tb, but i recomend it.. no use in spending bucks on a manifold and CAI kit and then starve it at the TB

I hear the typhoon is shit. Honestly, I would just drive it as it is unless you want to build an engine.

The typhoon is the best bang for the buck period but doesnt perform nearly as well as say a rpm 2 or a trickflow track heat or holley systemax when you add things like head cam.
However .. with your near stock setup it would perform probly just as well as the others.

you can and still will make 300 rwhp through the stock TB n/a The typhoon is a poor match for stock heads. Go with a performer intake. If you dont, get a gt40 or cobra and port the lower once you have heads. Do not bother doing a cam with stock heads I dont care how badly you want it to sound mean. DO however install 1.7 RRs Best NA power mods for the stock 302 1. intake 2. Long tube headers/midpipe 3. pullies

Also um the typhoon IS a performer intake copy they are almost EXACTLY identicle and make power in the same power range. The upper has shorter runners but the lower has longer the over all runner length and size and plenum size is almost identicle to a performer.

I have run the typhoon, gt-40, preformer, stock, bbk....they are all about the same with the bolt ons you have right now....I would go typhoon or performer...and do a stage 2 FTcam..love that cam in a couple of my old cars..

show me where I said the a cam with stock heads wont make power. Camming a 5.0 with stock heads is a Cost Inefficient suggestion. It will create more problems and will not increase your trap enough to be worth it at all. OOOOhhh aaaaah you get that sound! Then your slow ass puts up a crap time and becomes a black eye of cammed mustangs. typhoon is the copy of the performer RPM not the performer my car became softer on the midrange and lost power under the curve below 4k with the typhoon over the gt40 with an identical setup. If you are talking about ANY stock head car that is done at 5600 that is not negligable power loss. with a stock cam car it is just STUPID. Why dont you stick to big setup cars where imperfections in a combination are better covered up by another pound or 2 of boost. when you are talking about a NA setup, if everything is not matched perfectly you will give up MPH. Even if peak powers are the same the car will not neccessarily perform even closely. FYI I ran stock E7s, e303, 1.7s with a gt40, Then picked up a a typhoon. I needed prostar big and littles and some more weight loss to make up for what i loss with the typhoon over the gt40. It would have been worse with a stock cam where i couldnt take advantage of the breathing up top that the typhoon provides
