Unhappy What is it?????

Ok, About a week ago I was driving home and all of a sudden I hit the gas and the RPM's go up, but I don't accelerate, and my whole car shudders like I'm about to miss a gear or something :emb: I immediatly think "Transmission" but I had the transmission redone not even a year ago, so then I think "rearend....maybe?" So I keep driving, and once I get passed like 10-15 the shuddering stops and everything is fine.

I take it to the Ford dealership where I work, and they said they'd fix it. I go to check on it the next day and they said "Yeah, there was nothing left of the rear end, and the clutch was worn." Now I was thinking, "Umm, ok......this is like one of the very few things that doesn't go out on mustangs, and the clutch is going to be worn cuz the car is almost 10 years old"

Anyways, they replace to for like $400, and I go to drive it out, and it does the SAME THING. :wtf?: So I pull it right back in there, and they say "We'll look at it again." Ummm, ya think?! Now they say it's my "planetary gear set" and thanks to my friend Kenny I know what this is. They are gonna charge me like $700 for this. Does this sound like what's wrong with it? Another one of my friends told me to have them check the drive shaft What do ya'll think??

the driveshaft could be bent or maybe a spider gear isn't in quite right or the gear has a big backlash, who knows. do you have wheel hop (carrier prob?), and what kind of shuddering, does it feel like wheel hop but isn't?

good luck though!

If the rpm's go up and it didn't accelerate there is only one thing it could be and that would be the transmission. The diff. carrier was replaced which was extremely worn judging by the burnt rear end fluid.(the carrier has clutches)I also saw it while up in the air that the right side upper and lower control arm bushings were completely shot.(they had alot of play)With wore out bushings it could cause a shudder due to pinion angle changing drastically. If you are a 100% sure that the rpm's do increase without the car accelerating though the transmission is the problem.Do you have a warranty with the transmission still? If so I would take it back.Just trying to steer ya in the right direction!:jeff:
