What's your best jimmy rig?

Me and a couple of buddies were in the garage bs'ing around and we started talking about this. I'm talking about when you use your mad McGuyver skills to come up with a temporary (or not, for that matter lol) fix for a problem.

One of mine: I lost the clips that hold the fan shroud to the radiator so I looked around in my toolbox and found some nylon zip ties. I tied the fan shroud up to the radiator with them. :jeff:

What are some of yours?

When i was in Wyoming going to school one of the guys was gonna trade in his car for a lesser payment but the thermostat was stuck shut. You couldn't drive it more than 5 minutes before it would heat up. So we decided to change it out before going over there, then Murphy's Law took over. Both bolts holding the housing on snapped. So rather than go through all the hassle of drilling it out just to get it to the dealer we got some JB Weld and pretty much sealed the new thermostat in there permanently. Then we put a little of the weld on the end of each bolt and stuck them back in the holes in the housing. After letting it sit for 2 days we filled it up, low and behold it held perfectly. I that thermostat ever goes out the person that owns it is screwed.

Soda cans to splice exhaust pipe together has to be one of my worst ones I guess. I've used zip ties on a lot of stuff, but they do that in NASCAR for a lot of stuff.

ha, using almost a quarter roll of duct tape to attach an intake hose to my blower and to keep it from collapsing. :d'oh:

no more duct tape now.

Try holding your fan shroud on with electrical tape ( I left the zip ties at home that day). This weekend we ziptied my buddies hood shut when his hood latch broke. then he drove to houston with it like that. :d'oh:

best one i've seen would be on my first car.

my old '87 Lebarron.

for some reason the parking break never really worked. well one day i was under it changing the oil and i noticed a bungie-cord... and guess what.. it was patching together a broken parking break cord. O_o no wonder it didn't work.. damn bungie cord stretches... parking break cord is NOT supposed to streatch!

but i thought it was rather funny.

when i had my '96 i went to bradzoil to get my inspection sticker, the guy told me he couldnt pass me until i got a full-length exhaust(with the tail pipe coming out the bumper).. because he had seen that i had cut the pipes after the cats... anyway, $ and time were an issue so i went home and luckily i still had the muffler and pipes so i just hung it using the stock exhaust hangers and some exhaust tape and a shirt hanger.. and the guy passed me. (the ghetto rig barely held up, but fortunately it wasn't a long drive)

and because im so cheap and half-ass at everything i do.... it seems like everything i own is rigged somehow or another.

when the hood was stolen off my car, the top part of the hoodlatch was stolen as well, so the safety hoodlatch wouldnt work anymore, just the cable release part... so we jimmied a cable thru the fiberglass of the hood and put a masterlock on it to make sure it wouldnt fly up and hit the windshield... glad those ghetto days are over... whew.
