What thermostat does Ford Racing use in their 302 Boss crate engines?

    Hello,
I installed crate engine M-6007-X302B(302 CID BOSS BLOCK with GT-40 HEADS AND B CAM from ford racing) on my 1990 Mustang. Does anyone know what Thermostat does this engine have? 180 ?

I am asking this because I find my gauge (Autometer Gauge hooked into thermostat neck) is reading temperature at about 200-210 F. Also, my stock gauge would read at this range. The temperature where I live is about 42-45 C and the humidity is very high. So am I in the right range of the engine operating temperature? Note that I do not have any coolant leak.

I was just told that this engine does not come with thermo.. so I would check the one it has right now. Some people say 200-210 does not sound high. I was just wondering because my brother's stock 5.0 would read about 175-185 and he is living in a place where temp is about 35-38 C right now. So I am not really sure is it the place, engine or something is wrong with my cooling system!

I have a 180 and a 100% new cooling sys (rad pump etc..) with elec fan set to come on at 200. Car runs 200-210 even in 100+ temps. The motor needs some heat to perform best 210-220 is not hot at all.

I don't like running engines at anywhere over 190, GM likes to run their engine on the verge of be cooked, but not me. With the amount of timing Fords like, I would never run one hard, if the temps were any higher than 190. If the temps get any higher than 190, I would just baby it around until you can get it cooled off. I would stick with the 180 degree thermostat, that is probably the best choice for a Ford. Sounds like you may need more fan or radiator or both.
Also since I don't have a thermomitter to look at right now, so I don't know what those air temps you are giving in celcius equate to in farenheight. So I have no clue how hot it is where you are, speak American.
The current combo is an '85 coupe with 302 bored and stroked to 364, Ported Twisted Wedge heads and a BXR intake, A9M ECM with a Moates chip, Doug Nash 5 spd, 4.56 gears, Hoosier 275/60/15 drag radials.
Daily driver '89 GT 302 stock block, crank, rods and pistons, ported GT-40P heads with stock valves, Ported Explorer intake, B302 cam, Z spec T5, 3.73 gears, Moates chip and no traction. Made 325 whp and 325 wtq.

place where temp is about 35-38 C right now.

    that is 98-100.4F

Ron mine seems to do fine at 200-210.....Never gets any hotter than that even idleing in traffic. Usually it runs about 190-200 on the mech temp gauge.

You always can use online units converter
    Convert Temperature - Unit Converter

    42-45 C = 108-113 F
    35-38 C = 95-100 F

You might be right, it is not recommended to run it at higher than 190. How about Power Stat 180 Hypertech thermostat? Any idea?

It is the same with me, SOMETIMES it gets 210-215 in traffic, but it will run like 200 most of the time. My worries are that I am running my engine too hot, and this might have an impact on the engine's life.
