i've heard its overkill to replace the rods in a stock 5.0 block because the block will go before the rods do. But I dont know how acurate that is.

In most cases that is true.

i wanna put about 425 to wheels with the spray and hit the elevens...does that sound too radical for stock rods?

It sounds feasable, but then no engine is really fool proof built or stock!!!!

Nope! I have a stock short block and it put down 487 rwhp.Weakest point is the block.

Now these are the kinds of responses I was hoping for! Thanks alot guys btw 12second5.0, what arp hardware should i look into. like i said, im doing a rebuild and porting my heads out more but am "somewhat" clueless as to the vital parts needed for my application. i am currently looking at a Ford Racing gasket kit, but dont I want to go with copper gaskets instead? im a little confused but want this project done right. i saved my money all summer and just want a sturdy motor that i dont have to worry about all the time. thanks again guys

I am running the factory forged pistons, factory rods with ARP rod bolts, factory crank, block was torque plate honed.I machined the deck of the block with the pistons .018 above deck.I also had the machine shop hot tank the block and install the cam bearings and freeze plugs.I would suggest using ARP main studs,ARP head bolts,As far as porting stock heads, you can achieve some decent port numbers but for the time and work usually needed IMO you are better off with an aftermarket head such as AFR,Edelbrock,Canfield, etc. If you need more info just shoot me a pm.
